I have never seen anyone count sellos af the pilgrim office, I must admit. Last time I arrived with too few because I walked the Variante Espiritual which was remote in October. I had no problems at all. Why are you doing other steps? Because off the distance or some nice places? I know nothing about the monastery, whether it is good or not...I will be walking the Via/Sanabres in April/May. My plan between Ourense and A Laxe is to use Cea and Castro Dozon, rather than the Monastery. BTW, do you know if we have to obtain 2 sellos per day on this final stretch of the Camino Sanabres into Santiago?

Didn't stay there (but I would if I do the Sanabres again) but visited the place, did the tour...well worth a visit.I know nothing about the monastery, whether it is good or not...
Hi, Yes "on a par" does mean "equally". I have fond memories of the Primitivo especially overnighting out on the Hospital variation. The Sanabres though may just tip the scales for my favourite. I walked it directly after leaving the VdlP last Feb/Mar.Wonderful Don. We will certainly go there. Does on par mean equally? I just completed Primitivo and loved it, see my best shots here if you want: https://caminoenkalder.dk/maries-tips-camino-primitivo/
I have a spreadsheet of accommodations for the de la Plata and the Sanabres.
E- mail me if you would like to see it. Look at my blog, May 2017, for accounts, etc

I will! Surely the monastery...Stick with your plan of the monastery - it's truly special. Freezing cold, even in summer, but special.
Thanks Musicman. I visited the blog, but in which month and year do I find the spreadsheet? I am very interested. My mail is marielau@florin.dk. Thank a lotI have a spreadsheet of accommodations for the de la Plata and the Sanabres.

My choice of stops is based on the distances rather than the towns. I need to complete the full journey in around 38 days.I have never seen anyone count sellos af the pilgrim office, I must admit. How funky, almost magic...I will look up here Oseira is. I don’t know this camino that well yet.Have walked the Sanabrés three times - twice to Oseira and once the other way. IMHO the monastery is definitely worth the visit. If I recall correctly, there are about 12 monks still living there.
Funny coincidence, in December I walked from Burgos to Sarria (7 years after my first Francés) and while staying with the nuns in León I ran into the same hospitalero as in the albergue in Oseira, a Belgian.
The albergue at the monastery is basic but very adequate although in the winter it is probably freezing. I was there twice in July and it was cool inside due to the thick stone walls.
Ultreia!
You can catch the tourist train from Plaza Mayor in Ourense, across to the free baths along the river. It is about 1€ for the train. There are stops at 3 different sets of baths. We went to the second lot. They were very hot!!
The albergue at Castro Dozon is lovely. You can stay in rooms with twin beds for 20€.
If I remember correctly there is a private albergue not far out of Cea, which is supposedly very good.
