Starting from Porto Cathedral on Sunday Jan. 22--credential?

Having a week free at the end of January, I'm going to do the Porto-to-Santiago section, and was planning to buy my credential at the cathedral on Sunday morning, January 22, and hear Mass there before my departure. Does anyone happen to know (i) when the shop selling the credential opens on Sundays, and (ii) what are the times of Sunday Masses? Ideally, I'd like to get started as early as possible in the morning, bearing in mind that darkness comes early at this time of year.

Many thanks for this. It looks, then, as though I'll have to try to pick up an early Mass somewhere before I get to the Cathedral. That 11:00 service certainly won't be finished before noon, and it gets dark on the 22nd at 17:40. I have 34 km to cover that day, to Vila do Conde. Less than six hours in which to do it is a little tight.
 
Why don't you buy your Credencial from the Froum's shop, that way, regarless of mass times, flight delays, etc. you will at least have it, and if sll goes well have it stamped at the cathedral?

Take the metro to Matosinhos (stop Mercado) and walk from there to Vila do Conde. 20 kms . Easy to get there before dark.
What you miss ? A bit alongside the Douro river (nice walk. A bit urban but nothing special )and an oceanside walk to Matosinhos but there will be a lot of oceanside walking from Matosinhos too. !

That would be the ideal solution. But I won't be in one place long enough between now and then to be able to receive anything through the post.

I'm one of those irritatingly linear types, whose modus operandi is to begin at the beginning and finish at the end. It's a personality flaw, but at this stage of my life it's easier just to give in to it than try to fight it.

Extremely grateful to you for the suggestion, though. If I weren't walking for religious reasons, that's exactly what I would do.
 
Is there a reason you want to get to Villa do Conde? I'm sure you would arrive at the Angeiras camping, which offers albergue service to pilgrim, before dark. That is unless you have a particular reason to want to make your etapa Porto-Villa do Conde. You could then do Angeiras to Rates, with a stop in Villa do Conde for a coffee break.

Time constraints, AdC. I have to have the entire thing finished by the late morning of the 29th, when it'll be time to go back to work. If I don't get a decent number of kilometres behind me on the 22nd, I'll have that much more to do on subsequent days. And given my druthers, as the Americans say, I'd prefer to do the longer legs at the beginning of the week and have a little more time for unexpected contingencies at the end than leave myself with a few very long legs to do while fighting an inflexible deadline.

Based on previous experience on the Francés, daily legs in the low-to-mid thirties (in terms of km) are quite comfortable for me, so that's how I've broken up this trip. When I start getting deeply into the forties, it's a different matter.
