Hola! I'm arriving into Burgos by Train at 5:46am on Monday, 6/3/2013. I want to start walking right away. Can I go straight from the train to pick up my Pilgrim pass? If so, where?

Thanks!
Sarah

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

€60,-
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Hello Sarah!

The train station in Burgos is situated a few kms away from the city centre. You can walk or take a bus to the Cathedral of Burgos. Once you find the yellow arrows behind the cathedral the camino is well marked through the city. Leaving Burgos in the dark can be a bit tricky but following the river you will be on the right track.

Behind the cathedral there is also the municipal albergue where you can obtain the credential. Unfortunately it is closed in the middle of the day.

The municipal in Burgos is one of my all time favourite albergues on the Camino Frances. And there is ALOT to sight see in Burgos. You should spend a night there or at least a couple of hours before hitting the Way.

Buen camino, Sarah!

srosa,

In Burgos you can get your Credential or Pilgrim Passport at the Albergue Municipal Casa del Cubo at Calle Fernan Gonzalez, 28. However, the albergue is closed from 08:00 am until 12 noon.

Buen Camino,

Margaret Meredith

Hi! Yes, definitely get public transport into the centre. The station is in an area where it's difficult to orientate yourself due to all the featureless new apartment blocks etc. I did it once (due to bizarre circumstances), but had to find my way using maps on bus stops! It was about 6am on a bank holiday so there weren't actually any buses/taxis to catch! I guess it's only 20 mins or so in a taxi. Buen Camino!

p.s. I think there will be taxis running at that time on a normal day. On public holidays the trains don't start arriving until about 8.30 so there were no taxis etc available when I was there.

Hi Sarah,

My wife, daugther and I are arriving on the same day but later that afternoon. Your questions and all of the responses have been extremly helpful. We plan on staying the night in Burgos and hitting the road early Monday, I am sure well run into you somewhere along the way.

Thanks everyone for all your great advice.

Joe

I got my credencial from the pilgrim office at the side of the cathedral. As you're looking at the cathedral facade, take the few steps down to the plaza on the right, and the doorway is halfway along the cathedral wall. You might have to wait until 9 for it to open but there are a few good cafés nearby.

Just to note, if anyone is arriving at the bus station rather than the train station you can very easily get to the albergue, cathedral etc. without catching any taxis. Left as you exit the bus station then right at the end of the street. Cross the river (fortunately there's a bridge - after all the Camino provides), through the arch and you're there. 5-10 mins. Buen Camino!
