Starting in Late Aug

Time of past OR future Camino
Plan (2018)
I want to avoid the summer heat and Aug crowds, but need to be back home in late Sept. I'm conjecturing that in late August most ofthe August vacationers would be approaching Santiago and the crowds might be much lighter in St. Jean and hopefully the rest of the way as the main crunch would be ahead of me. Can someone confirm that conjecture? Is late August a good time to start?

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I dont know for sure, but I'd love to know the answer to this as well as I am planning to walk the same time next year!

It will still be busy, but less so than in July/August at least until you hit Sarria ;-) Buen Camino, SY

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I walked this year from August 21 to September 25, SJPDP to Finesterre. It was very hot for the first couple of weeks. Up to 35C/95 F. So you won't necessarily beat the heat by walking at that time of year. I never had any problem with crowds or getting a bed. I wouldn't hesitate to walk during the same time period again.

Thanks all. Very helpful. I'm surprised that it's still that hot in late August.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

In my opinion it is a great time to start. In 2013 I completed the Camino Frances on 10/01/2013. We had started on August 24,2013. There was less crowds, and the weather was perfect. I totally agree that it does get more crowded after Serria, but I still think it is the best time to go.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
