Starting my camino May 20, getting excited.

Time of past OR future Camino
planned for Spring 2016
Starting from Porto and plan to walk to Matosinhos after arrival and then spend the night and walk up to Vila Do Conde. Still deciding whether to turn to the central route at that point. Since I am walking alone I would like to meet others but I also dont want to fight for beds every night. Will the central route be super crowded at the last part of May? Also what should I expect for temperatures? Last year did CF and we had pretty much rain every day and even got hailed on so I am hoping for less rain, more sun. :) Getting very excited.

T- last September on the Coastal route there were some days with very few other pilgrims and some days with many. It might have to do with the day of the week you start out as I saw only 3 people from the USA and the rest were from Europe, mostly Portuguese and Spanish. Once the Coastal Route joined up with the Central route there were quite a few more people but not crowded. I'm going back in September to walk the Central route and see what I missed.

Bom Caminho!

Olá T,

you will never walk alone wether on the coastal route or on central way. The crowd may start on the spanish side in Tui where the spaniards start for the last 100 kms to get the compostela. But as I remember end of May was allright every year. Well, in May/June I stay in Angeiras (Lavra) every year for hospitaleiro and we have had always enough beds for pilgrims.

Talking about the weather. On the CP we had the same conditions like you had on the CF last year. Hopefully it will be better this year. My suggestion, choose your way depending on the weather. If it´s rainy and windy the strong winds from the atlantic ocean make it very uncomfortable along the coast. Therefore it will be better heading inland in Vila do Conde >Rates to the central way. Check the 10-days weather forecast arriving in Porto.

Bom caminho,
