Hello, The albergue in Irun should be realtively easy to find - the locals should be able to help you. From memory it does not open until 4 p.m. The tourist office is very helpful too - they will give you a map and directions how to find the albergue. At the albergue you will be able to get information for the next few days, and I think (again, from memory) they may even give you a list of albergues ahead. They had copies of guide books that you could look at and also, most other pilgrims will be happy to share information with you from the guides that they carry.

Just take care when following the arrows and you should have no problems. I found the local people only too happy to help and give directions. Most albergues have information for the next few days and by the sound of it there are plenty of people who will be walking with you, even on the less well travelled del Norte!

I had difficulty leaving one town early on and a local man chased after me, described where to go - in Spanish, which I only partly understood, and then watched until he was sure I was climing the right set of stairs, giving directions via a piercing whistle to atttract my attention and then waving in the right direction! Buen Camino, Janet

Sabina,

Go in peace!

Find the albergue in Irun (very easy) and they will set you up for the rest of the way.

The arrows are very present and fairly easy to follow.
Remember to go easy at first to find your pace and then you'll soon be a pro and enjoy this route as a challenging but rewarding experience.

Buen camino,
Jean-Marc

Elevation map shows this is really steep! What’s the best way from downtown Hondarribia up there? Then wish me luck on the Purgatorio—I am a nervous wreck.
My group of six arrives in Irun on May 20 and we're starting our Camino on May 21. Since it's the beginning of the busy season, I'm wondering if we should order trekking poles from Amazon Espana...
