Time of past OR future Camino
Camino Frances, Camino Portugues
Hello, I am starting my 3rd Camino and bringing my better half along for his first. Does anyone have experience with Hotel des Remparts or Hotel Itzalpea? I'm already finding it harder than the last two Camino's in finding beds. Also, can we do back pack transport from SJPP to Roncesvalles? Thanks all! Buen Camino, starting on Sept 14. Gite Beilari was full.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

In terms of hotels, I haven't stayed at either of those two, but at a similar price point, I would recommend Villa Esponda as the rooms are excellent with good air-con. Pushing the price point a little more, the Pyrenees Hotel is a comfortable option.

Stayed at Itzalpea in 2019. Was OK, if i rember right, clean, but not a very big room. Felt good enough for a night.
They did close the reservation at 20:30 back than, you might need to check in before that.

Hello Connie,
When I was in SJPP in 2016, there was a thriving backpack transport.
all the best,
Tacey

I stayed at Itzalpea with a friend but it was back in 2012. Looking at pics it seems to have been renovated since then as I remember charming old fashioned/rustic style rooms with very wonky floors. We had a good stay though.

I stayed at Hôtel Itzalpea last year at the end of September. Good location, a couple of blocks closer to the train station before you get to the main drag. Easy walk to the pilgrims' office and Express Bourricot. The single room with mountain view was simple and just what I was looking for. Justine was very responsive by email and accepted my U.S. credit card when I requested to pay in advance. I liked that it was quiet, calm, and peaceful. They did not have dinner and I found a great restaurant in town. The included breakfast was exactly what I needed and prepared me before I hit the road. I recommend this place!

Buen Camino!!

We stayed in Itzalpea last August. It was great. Small room, great host.

Maison Bidegain Berria in Isopure, an adjoining village and a short and easy walk from SJPP is on Booking.com. We stayed there in 2017 . It is a lovely couple who rent out one bedroom. They serve a great breakfast and will make dinner ( although dinner may be a small extra charge , honestly can't remember). I checked the reviews on Booking ti see if it still seems to be as good as we remember and it appears to be. Highly recommended.

I’m on the Le Puy Way now and hope to arrive SJPdP Sept 11. I’ll be continuing up the GR10 to Irun, the del Norte to Bilbao, then the Olvidado and Invierno. I’d like to rest for a couple of days in Saint Jean and relax in a single room. I’ve checked with a dozen or more chambrés or hotels by phone or WhatsApp or online and finding no availability. Is this likely pre-emptive booking with cancellations that may occur just before? I can stay in a gîte if necessary but at this transition point I’d just like to have a private space if I can get it. I know it’s a busy time.

Gite Compostella has private rooms. They're modest but clean. Not ensuite but they do have a nice kitchen area. I've stayed there many times.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I stayed at Hotel des Remparts end of June, it was fine. Owner very friendly, room small and clean. Restaurant closed but plenty of eating places close by.
