I've been bumming around on the Camino boards for more than a year - ever since my wife Francine and I started looking into the Camino. During that time, you folks have taught me so much. You've answered every question I've had without me ever having to ask, and you answered the questions I never thought to ask.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Yesterday, I purchased the plane tickets for my first Camino. I'm still in the crazy-excited stage. I'm sure the nervous-terror stage will hit at some point.

I leave home Easter Sunday and arrive in Madrid on April Fool's Day, which somehow seems appropriate. ;) I set out from SJPDP on 02 April. If you happen to need a rideshare from Pamplona to SJPDP on that afternoon, let me know!

My lovely bride will meet me in León, and together we will walk the final two weeks to Santiago de Compostela.

There's a forum badge on my Osprey, so if you happen to see me, say hello.

Hopefully, we'll blog the experience (thomryng.com/camino), but in any case, we'll take the Camino as it comes.

Cheers!

Less than a week to go. Panic has set in and subsided. So crazy excited right now!

At this point, I'm not entirely sure whether I'm going to start in SJPdP or Roncesvalles. I'll see what happens after I get off the bus in Pamplona.

Thanks again to all those who have shared their advice and their wisdom of the Camino.

Ultreia!

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Ho Thom! I just love reading about the excitement/panic part of the pre-camino last moments before setting out!
You sound like you will be fine out there (but you already know this, deep inside

I will be based around Castrojeriz for a month from about the 10th of April so you are more than likely to walk past me!
I will be doing first aid, along the Camino on the Meseta, as well as in various refugios in the afternoons and evenings.

Here's a photo to help you recognise me - not very clear I'm afraid, I don't have many as I don't arrange to have photos taken of me, I was doing a wedding in Cornwall on a beautiful sunny October day.

I will look like that but with the addition of a large green heavy first aid bag :|

Come and say hello! -

Buen Camino

Completely off topic but you look dead cool David. Enjoy your stint.

Thom from someone who can't stay away from the Camino, start in St Jean.

You are too far away to wake up one morning and think. Big Mistake in starting in Roncesvalles.

You cannot make a quick, simple journey to rectify any feelings of, I should have started in San Jean.

You can get a bus from Pamplona to Roncesvalles at 18.00 and then take a taxi to SJpp. it will be a lot cheaper. I know this from trying to get from Pamplona on a Sunday and lots of folk giving me lots of advice, for which I am grateful.

On the other hand if you are rich then a 100€ taxi will not present a problem.

David,

I will look out for you in a couple of weeks...and most probably will ask your assistance...

David, I'll keep an eye out for you!

As for Saint Jean versus Roncesvalles - well, I'll take what the Camino offers.

Buen Camino, everyone!

Ha! You should see me close-up, head like an old coconut and a body like a sagging mattress, left out in the rain (but God loves me, apparently)

Now delayed by a week or so, hoping to be on the Camino by the 16th ish

hope to see you two and many more

Buen Camino!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
