Hello Camino Forum

For the last two or three years I have had it in my mind to walk the Camino Frances, but something always seemed to get in the way. I recall someone saying (on this forum, I believe), that once the Camino starts calling, it won’t let you go until you go; and as I have recently retired, nothing is now holding me back from following that call. So the flight to Madrid is booked for late August.

I am now in this state of “why do I have to wait, why can’t I go tomorrow” but it is probably just as well because I still need to work on my walking. Though I am generally in pretty good physical shape, I have come to realize, that it takes some time to build the strength to walk long distances daily with a backpack. For the same reason, on this first Camino-walk, I decided to start from León and take it easy from there to Santiago.

Many thanks to this forum for sharing experiences (good and bad) and advice on everything including training, logistics, packing lists, mental preparation etc. It has been a great help and inspiration.

Prepare for your next Camino on California's Santa Catalina Island, Oct 27 to Nov 2
Buen camino!

Welcome to the forum @stgcph and hopefully walking in September will be more pleasant than now through August when it can get very hot.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I decided to start from León and take it easy from there to Santiago.
Fourteen days is the "journeyman" time for that stretch, so plan a longer time than that if you want to "take it easy." You can plan your days here: http://www.godesalco.com/plan/frances

The first day from Leon to Villadangos del Paramo (or the nicer Mazarife alternative route) can be long. If you walk to La Virgen and an albergue or hostal there, you can easily take a bus back to Leon for touring and dinner. That same bus could give you a 7 km jump on the day through urban walking if you want to do that. Buen camino! :)

...and it all will be better if you do a lot of training!!!

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
A good way my friend. Open your heart. Pray. It all works.BC
