I am planning to start the Camino from Maastricht in the Netherlands but I am unsure of which route to take. Does anyone have any advice on the pro's and con's of the various routes?

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

Hi Dennis,

Don't know if dutch is your first language but here is a link to the Via Mosana
http://pilgrim.peterrobins.co.uk/routes ... osana.html
I know there's a path from Maastricht to Tongeren and from there you can follow the old roman roads and get on the Via Monastica which finally ends in Vézelay.
The belgian confraternity of St James in Mechelen has a wealth of information.

Good luck!

Thanks Sabine, I ordered the guide, I’m a Brit living in Holland with basic Dutch. Does any one have any advice on the route, I heard that parts of the route can be rather strenuous as it was laid out by the Belgium alpine society.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
From Maastricht you can follow the Maas/Meuse to the French border (towpaths make good straightforward and untrafficked routes) and the Ardennes. Thence to Reims, thence via Chalons to Vezelay.

This is roughly what we did (on bikes). The French Grand randonnee route (GR654 I think) does roughly this.
I searched GR654 and came up with Peter Robbins site and others eg

have fun researching
