Does anyone know the proper name of those hanging things they put in the doorways along the Camino to keep the flies and sun out of the house? They're like beaded curtains from the 60's but a little different. I'd like to find one for my house but don't know what they're called.

HAHA! no.. these are different. they are made for outdoor use and are plastic or rubber... and the strands are closer together.

I've only seen them in Europe.. we don't use them here I guess.

Yes i'm looking for some myself come on forum don't let us down. It will bring a little Spain back to the states

And I just learned the metal shutter thingies that you pull down are called persianas. I wish they sold them at home. I love them!

I can't see why not, if not completely it would surely reduce the numbers coming inside. The idea behind it is similar to a cork hat in the end. Buen Camino, SY

It might be strip curtain although I guess it'll have different names in different areas.

I was really taken by the 'hanging thingeys' along the camino as Well. I actually found them back in Australia. They are called chain fly screens or bead and candy twist flys screens or chain mail curtains. I think this is a 'cork hat.' I figure the hanging corks are meant to keep the flies away, but it wouldn't have done anything to keep the flies away on my visit to Uluru in 2010. Thank goodness I had a good mesh fly hat with me.

Yes that's it! A solution to the traditional 'Aussie Salute' ie constantly swatting at flies... and yes, we tend to use fly veils over our hats these days - far more effective.

Yes. Not that I would trust them as a mosquito screen at home, too many mosquitoes. Mainly I wanted potential buyers to think about whether they should buy one of those things if they wouldn't keep the mosquitoes out and they were a problem in your area.
