Welcome to the Forum! You will find much helpful information here as you plan your Camino. Past pilgrims who are Forum members are always eager to share their experiences and advice.

September is a wonderful month to walk the Camino. However you must be prepared for varied weather. Nights can be chilly. Since the crowds of summer will be past you will find the welcome at albergues to be most sincere.

Be sure when you begin your Camino that you start walking slowly and very easy. Daily distances cited in the guidebooks are not sacred; do not attempt 40 km the first day! Easy does it Just because so many pilgrims have been successful does not guarantee that everyone will be. Anybody any moment can fall or pull or break anything. The most common injury is the result of trying to walk too far too quickly carrying too much!

Hi Todd,
Saw your blog and remarks about back-pack and footwear. You must wear your walking boots in training although I know it's months away till you start: sorts out the blisters, ill-fitting boots, etc in good time. And, of course, you will wear your back-pack too, fully loaded, when training - once you have one that fits! Start gently and over short distances and then increase the length of your walks so when you arrive in Merida you will have no problems.

I switched to boots, and wore an overly-heavy pack for training. I am on day 4, and am loving it, save for the blisters. I have them sorted, I think - hydrogel patches (plasters), and threading blisters appear to do the trick. I am in Cáceres currently. Cañaveral looks a bit scary, but it couldn't be scarier than Aljucén to Alcúescar. That was brutal.
