We will be in Porto but want to start walking at Valencia or Porto. What is the best way to get there from Porto? Train, bus, ride service? There seems to be a train, but it takes several hours which seems too long. Any suggestions appreciate. Thanks

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
If you are in Porto and you wish to start walking at either Valença do Minho, not Valencia, or Tui check out the various possibilities of transport from Porto to Valença do Minho or Tui on Rome2Rio.

Either a train or bus should take less than 2 hours.

In Valenca do Minho you can get a Credencial in the pilgrim albergue Sao Teotonio. See their address and more here.

After the albergue walking north towards Tui on the camino from Valenca do Minho, which was the old frontier, you pass through a spendid a 17thc fortress and then cross the river Minho on the 19th c International bridge designed by the firm of Eiffel. Within the fortress the camino passes through the garden of the pousada/hotel Sao Teotonio. Stop at their outdoor bar to sip a coffee or more, relax and admire that panoramic view.

Bom caminho.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
The easiest, fastest and most comfortable way to get to Valença from Porto is by train. According to my Portuguese rail app (CP, or Comboios de Portugal) there are about 15 trains on an average day from Porto's Sao Bento station with times ranging between two and three hours. It's very easy to reserve a seat using the app. As mspath points out, Valença is a nice place to spend some time. We stayed in a charming small hotel within the fortress of Valença called Alojamento da Vila. You can also take one of those little tourist trains across the bridge to visit the cathedral in Tui, which is worth a look.
