Here's a story about a brand new high-speed train station that's 100 kilometres + from Compostela, and yet remains closed from "lack of demand" :

But it seems to me that if this station worked, O Páramo could be an interesting alternative starting point for those wanting to do only the final 100K.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
The key question is whether it is on a Camino route. Believe me, if it were a viable alternative to Sarria, people would quickly find it and use it.

Everywhere is on a Camino route -- but it's actually fairly close to Sarria, and it looks to be about 15-20K from Portomarin.
