Walking back - or walking FROM Santiago

After having walked 3 times the Francés and once the Sanabrés, we have been thinking of doing what the ancient pilgrims did - walk back (even although it can't be to my doorstep - Costa Rica - a bit difficult)! Has anyone on the Forum ever attempted the return walk? Anne

Hi Anne,
I haven't walked back but you could contact Sue Kenney who walked back last year. I've met a few people on the road going back to their homes in Spain and in 2007 met a guy walking from Santiago to Rome.

Hi Anna,
I spent a few days walking in the opposite direction in 2011 without maps and i found it difficult to find the way especially in Burgos and Pamplona and the Spanish locals are so helpful you have to explain that you know you're going the wrong way.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Thanks you both for your replies. We were curious, because from time to time along the Camino, you always meet someone walking back - not many, to be sure. In the end, we have decided to make a slight change this year and start from Jaca and then, once again, join up with the Francés after Eunate, probably starting mid-May. Anne
