Walking In January

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Would like to walk part of the camino frances in January. The goal would be 300 km in 14 days.Any suggestions as to the most feasible route considering the weather. Thanks in advance.

Don't worry for the weather. I've walked several times in january/February Astorga-Ponferrada, with lots of snow, and you only have to worry for:

1) sun light
2) The open albergues
3) To dress the right clothes for the cold weather.

Sun light finishes at 5:30 - 6:00 pm.

If you begin in Leon, you will find open albergues in Astorga (both) Rabanal (El Pilar), Foncebadón (the private one), Ponferrada better than Molinaseca (sometimes are both closed at the same time), Cacabelos, Villafranca (Ave Fénix), Cebreiro (ansd some of them between both places) and all principals cities until you arrive in Santiago.

Buen Camino,

hi,
i am planning this too. 2 weeks, at the end of January... i am still thinking between the portuguese coastal route, which is much more warm in that period, no snow... or last part of camino frances in 2 weeks.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

This is also a good idea.

I walked my first Portuguese in February/2004 and I enjoyed a very good weather!

Hola
As Javier says sunlight,
it does not get light in the mornings until about 9.00am.There will be fewer pilgrims and weather is always pot luck whatever the time of year. But I like winter caminos and have never had any problems.

I am also planning to walk in January, leaving Australia for Pamploma via Madrid on 20th January 2011. First time ever on the camino! I am hoping to meet people on the way, although I am aware they are very few and far between at this time of year. I have about 5 weeks to walk, and am nervous, but excited! This is the only time of the year I can go, as I will be on my Uni break.
