Time of past OR future Camino
Camino Frances (starting May 20, 2013)
We walked May 20th to 30th starting from SJPdP and it rained on us 10 out of the 11 days. Every morning was 45-50 degrees F (7-10 C) and the highest temperature we ever saw was about 65 F (18 C).

According to Weather Underground, it rained 23 out of 31 days for the whole month.

It was cold and wet. ;-)

We arrived in SJPdP on May 4th and started on the 5th. The weather was excellent - high 50s to low 60s and sunny. We got no rain until we were through Pamplona. I believe May can be hit and miss. We heard that a a few weeks later, the route over the top from SJPdP was closed for really bad weather including sleet and some snow.
Your beginning would have been good. And it was not too crowded.
Good luck with it next time.

Time of past OR future Camino
May 1997 (Leon to Santiago); Sections Camino Frances: May 2011, May 2012, May 2013, October 2013, June-July 2014 (Sahagun to Santiago).
I walked May 18-22 Logrono to Burgos and every single day was misty rain the morning, a bit windy, and in the upper 40's deg F. At about 11am it will be up in the 50's deg F. The last 3 walking days I did not have to wear the poncho, but did wear gloves. I was not miserable because I was at the Camino, but it was miserable walking weather. A windbreaker, at a miniumum, was critical. That said, we watched the news of flooding at Roncesvalles while in Belorado where we had about a couple of hours of sunshine. It was not that it was cold in the morning, nor the misty rain or windy. It was that there was no relief.

I met a couple in Burgos that experienced snow and sleet SJPDP to Roncesvalles. She then showed me sunburned arms from the section Pamplona- Puente La Reina. May weather this year was erratic. I talked to many locals who told me they never saw a "crazier" Spring.

I also walked late May 2011. The weather was perfection. On May 2012, same as this past May.

Interesting, back to back years of crazing weather.
Maybe we'll luck out in 2014 just like your 2011.

I turning off my cell phone from Feb on! Not cancelling again for work lol
