What info is needed to reserve a bed at an albergue?

Greetings all,

I am reserving a bed at a private albergue for my first night on my camino portuguese, as I feel more at ease with knowing I have a place to stay especially when my plane arrives so late in the day. One particular albergue I am looking at is requesting personal information (name, passport #, birth date, nationality) in order to make a reservation, and I was wondering if providing this information is the norm for reserving at albergues?

This is my first camino and I am a novice when it comes to reserving rooms/beds. Your input is greatly appreciated!

That information is generally required by law for the albergue to get.
I know many pilgrims (especially Americans) are nervous about giving up the info, or especially handing over their passports, but it is common and quite safe.
Don't worry...

I suppose you are reserving by way of a webpage.
If you call, they only ask your name and phone number (the latter seemed obvious to me, but hospitaleros always asked it). On the other hand, I reserved just one or two days before, so they knew I was in the Camino.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
That information is normal to give when checking in, but I would say unusual to be asked for it on booking.
