Time of past OR future Camino
Camino Frances 2014
hi All-

I did the Camino Frances in 2014 from SJPDP to Santiago. I'm landing in Madrid on Tuesday and have exactly 2 weeks. Seems so short but so happy to come at all... any ideas on a 2 week camino? Was sort of considering starting at Burgos (I oddly loved the Meseta) but now thinking Portuguese Coastal... Would love any opionions.

If you have a yen to revisit the Frances my favourite section is the bit starting from Leon. Two moutains. Lots of wild spaces. Some wonderful towns.

If you're a Meseta lover than definitely start in Madrid. Apart from first 3-4 stages Camino de Madrid is going through Tierra de Campos. And is most possible the Camino with the lowest percentage of tarmac/road walking.

As you can read in recent post a peregrina and myself wrote about the nicest and most welcoming locals on that route. It is kind of solitary but very nice with plenty of albergues so you can really arrange your stages apart from the toughest one from Cercedilla to Segovia (approx.30km).

After looking up more about the Madrid route... seems a little too solitary for me. Unless it's much more popular in 2017. Now back to deciding again.

You mentioned loving the Meseta. So, why not start in Burgos and walk on. Stay at different albergues, different stages than before. Lucky you. Two weeks on camino. Yum!
 
What about the high temperatures in July on the meseta?? I thought it was not recommended to walk the meseta in July and/or August?
 
If you want company and love the meseta (this is not so strange...), walk from Burgos.

It's not recommended by some but still doable
 
I've walked the meseta in July, on the CF. Almost every morning there was a breeze that helped keep things manageable, and I got up early and always stopped by about midday. It does mean you have long hours of daylight in the one place unless you take a break (siesta under a tree) and walk on in the evening - which is absolutely lovely. That does cause problems doing the washing, and finding a bed. It would work if you booked ahead into private facilities that do not close early - we were on a shoestring and staying in albergues.

It is doable, just needs a bit of planning. On the Madrid route I'm not sure what options you have with accommodation.
