David,

In rural France on a Marne WW1 battlefield I, too, am watching dawn break, listening to birds wake and recalling that today is ANZAC day. ..May we who live in peace always remember. those who so valiantly served .

Have a safe and memorable journey.

I have been lucky enough to get two place at the ANZAC Dawn Service in Gallipoli next year for the 100 year event. My grandfather and great-grandfather were both there serving for the AIF. Now I prefer northern hemisphere yeast extract and flat warm beer.

Yes, today (in the states it is now Friday) is ANZAC Day!

My wife's great-grandfather (British Army) was at Gallipoli. He had already been involved in the Second Boer War.
He survived WW1 and then went on to be involved, as an Army officer, in the Iraq levies, WW2 and Palestine thereafter.
edit:
I should have added the obvious that because of the G-G father being at Gallipoli ANZAC day is always remembered here at this house in Hampshire.
Not, perhaps, as relevant but in addition my wife was born in Australia.

Hola/G'day Will - That will be a very special day for you and family members, although I am not sure how that small, special place will handle the crowds. I think I might go to NE France - Villers Bretonneux - where the Australian WWI memorial is situated. Cheers to all. M
