Will you walk for me?

It is exactly a year since I set out to walk with two other women from Stjpdp to Burgos. A wonderful experience in all senses but we knew that we had just two weeks of walking. It has lived with me ever since and I treasure it daily: the peace and rhythm of walking, the simplicity of living with basic creature comforts, the lovely people we met, the beauty of the joyous Easter eve service in Sto Domingo. I am not sure that I will be able to complete my pilgrimage although I long to, because of family obligations, and each year that I cannot I know that I am older (I am already retired).
Maribel Roncal of Cizur Menor, when my friend asked how she could thank her for attending to her raw blisters, replied "say a prayer for me when you get to Santiago, or if you are not a believer have a glass of wine and drink my health". So if you get to the end of your pilgrimage, please say a prayer or raise a glass to those who could not finish or who still live in hope that one day we may.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I plan to raise a glass or two in Santiago this summer.
I will dedicate one with you in mind--
'to your journey even if it never happens'.

I found your post quite moving.
I hope you get the chance to complete.

Bachstwin-

I agree with Fin... a toast of vino to you and your friends. I plan to hit the FC this summer as well for my first camino and in spirit with Fin, will lift a "saluti" for your request... I may well be one who doesn't finish though I sure hope to!

Do we not all journey for a purpose, whatever that may be? And otherwise, does it not seem that pilgrims are ultimately walking the camino for a certain purpose, whatever that may be... spiritual? Emotional? Physical? All of the above?

Best Wishes~ Denise

ps- since you are retired, are you not able to return? Is it family matters that keep you on hold?

I am on the camino just now. The wine will be drunk in moments, as dinner´s about the start.
The prayer I will make for sure when I get to the apostle´s place.
