Time of past OR future Camino
2017 - Via Turonensis I hope to start in Chartres
Hi
This will be my first Camino. It is a very important journey for me. I feel completely at sea. I have been practicing I have my pack and a guide book but still feel very unsure. Is anyone else setting out from Vezelay in early May 2017? I guess my main concern is finding cost effective accommodation en-route. Does anyone have any advice for a very green pilgrim.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

There are a number of Amis et Pelerins groups between Vezelay and SJPDP who tend to the waymarking of the route and provide places to stay. Not every group does an equally good job, so make sure you have a good guide. There are some posts in the forum thread mspath already linked that will give you more info on good guides that are out there.
This online PDF lists the various Amis groups with their websites, lists of places to stay and more useful info.
As for cost effective accommodation, all guides have estimates or precise info on prices for a bed in the accommodation listings. I walked from Vezelay last year (end of april), and I'll be glad to help if you have more questions. Happy planning and bonne route!

There's nothing to worry about. You just walk.

I spent an afternoon in Vezelay on a tour of France on 2013, before I had ever heard of "Camino" pilgrimages. I loved that village on the hill and its cathedral. Had I known it was the start of one of the many beloved Camino routes, I would have been in awe of that place all the more!
