Hello!

I'm in Portland, Oregon and would love to meet with fellow Oregonians to chat about the Camino! I've walked the Frances twice, the Aragones, and portions of the Coastal, Via de la Plata, and Portuguese Routes.

Give me a hollar and let's have coffee and plan our next Camino!
Mine's scheduled for 2011, probably Spring this time!

Annie, I am back in town now after having been gone for five months. I went to the Puget Sound meeting in Seattle a few weeks ago and discovered some people from Salem and Portland. We definitely have enough people to get a small group together....maybe do a walk or have a potluck? I would still love to get together with you for coffee sometime! I will PM you when my schedule at work clears up a bit.

Well, my life has changed dramatically in the last month! But if you're around here the last week of October we might be able to grab a beer.

In the last month, my mother bought a house in CA (she hated oregon), we've got a POD sitting in our driveway as I write this. They pick up the POD tomorrow and I'm driving her to California.

I return on the 29th or 30th to pick up MY car and drive to Desert Hot Springs, where I have rented a room for 6 months. I had given up my apartment to stay with mother "for a year" and now I have no place to go. I cannot afford real rent b/c I cannot work full time with my MCS, so she's pretty much left me up a tree. Of course, she says I can live with HER, but no... I'd rather not  It just wouldn't work.

THEN... in researching what the heck I was going to do, I found out about Workamping which is a cool way of finding seasonal work. I put an application online and within 10 days, I had a job offer from April 2011 to October 2011 at Parry Lodge in Utah as a movie host. SWEET!

So... life has been in the fast lane this past month.

The bad news is that I paid for hospitalero training next weekend, but now I just can't make it. It would be too overwhelming to try to get there.

Any chance you might want to attend? There's a spot already paid for. It's up one hour past Seattle.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Wow! Those are some big changes!

Well, I PM'd you....but I have no money at the moment for doing the Hospitalero training. I am trying to get caught up on bills and stuff since I got back from five months of traveling. I'm not an American Pilgrims member yet, either. Waiting until after the first of the new year to be able to afford that. Membership is kind of steep. Hope to see you before you leave!

Bumping this up. I want to create a Portland Camino Group. Or maybe an Oregon Camino Group. I'd like to see us meet monthly or maybe quarterly for a short walk (there are TONS of places to walk around and in Portland) and potluck, similar to what they are doing up in Puget Sound. Maybe we can discuss being affiliated with American Pilgrims on the Camino. If you are interested, I am looking to start something after the first of the new year. Please either respond here or PM me. Thanks!

Heather

Hey there! This is my first post here on the Forum ... but don't be too sketched out by that! :) I've been devoutly visiting this site for some time in preparation for my Camino in 2011. I live in the Couve but I would gladly drive across the river to meet up with you and any other Portland pilgrims (veteran, aspiring and otherwise) who are down to hang out. Your guidance and general presence is just what I need to stay focused and determined to make my camino a reality! Let's get something together ... even if we start small, we'll give it that sweet PNW flare!

buen camino a todos + can't wait to meet!

Hey fellow PDXers!

My name is Stephanie. I'm 28 and have been living in Portland for 5 years. This is also my first post to the forum. Been lurking around the last couple days taking in all the information available on here, it's making me so antsy to get walking!
But alas, I'm not leaving until late spring - I'm heading to Paris the last week in April, will spend a few days in the city, then training to Le Puy to walk the Via Podensis (Le Puy to SJPP) and then the Camino Frances onward to Santiago. It will be my first Camino, a realization of a dream I've had for over 4 years! I'll be traveling it alone - a little scary because I speak no Spanish and only a little French (tho I'm starting a French class next week). And I'm vegetarian, which might prove difficult.

I would very interested in getting together with other past and future pilgrims, especially to do some training walks or hikes, and to pick your brains and share stories over some hot food and wet drinks.

Fair winds,
Stephanie

I would definitely like to be a part of this although I could only attend in late December/early January and during the summer. I would also appreciate hearing any personal recommendations for French language classes. My goal is to start in Le Puy -- summer 2012 -- so I need to a)get more fit and b)get beyond "Bonjour". This is my first post but I have been addicted to the forum since I decided not to wait until that vague "someday" to experience walking a section in France.

I attended the Saint James Day walk/mass/potluck in Seattle last July and finished the Camino Frances in 2008. I work in Europe but all of my family is in Oregon and Washington so that is my school break suitcase home.

Let me know if this group forms... I'd love to be a part of it but probably won't be back in Oregon until around April... and will only stay if I can find an inexpensive room for rent. I decided not to go to Utah. I miss my family too much! If I can't find affordable lodging, I'll camp for the summer, and will try to check email at the library.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Awesome! As soon as I find a date that is free/open in my schedule, I will post here. I was thinking of maybe having a meeting at my house so I can show you my gear that I took, share what worked/what didn't work and we can sip on coffee or tea and I can also make some lunch or we can do a potluck. It's looking like we might meet in the next few weeks before Christmas. PM me with your availability over the next few weeks and I will put something together.

FYI, I work nights and have just finished a community service project (http://www.help-portrait.com) here in Portland and so now I will have more time to dedicate to getting this group off the ground.

All:

I did the Camino Frances route back in the summer 2007, but I didn't find this forum until after I returned home. I live in Vancouver and work in Portland, so if there's a pilgrim coffee klatch going on in P-Town I wouldn't mind being a part of it :)

I've been trying to get back over and do the Portuguese route - maybe next year? Here's hoping!

Buen Camino,

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I am super excited about the potential for this group! I know there are some folks in Salem, too. I'll be looking at my schedule and putting something together in the next couple of weeks. Yay!

Count us in as well. Robin and I live in Vancouver and are heading out on Monday for St. Jean and our first camino. We will be back in town in mid February. We will try and connect then. Our blog is posted at agoodwalkunspoiled.bogspot.com.

Cheers,
John

We're over in Bend, and we'd be happy to visit the rainy side for a good walk. Keep me posted.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Okay everyone, we are looking at just an informal gathering, nothing planned except to get together for some coffee this coming Friday. Details to follow tomorrow. Planning on meeting in North Portland for coffee in the afternoon sometime.

I need to check and see if the coffee shop has wifi....

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
So, this Friday, December 17th at 4p at Posie's Coffee Shop in Kenton Neighborhood.

Here's the coffee shop website: http://posiescafe.com/wp/

They have wifi, so we might be able to skype!

This is going to be an informal gathering, to meet, share some coffee, and talk about the Camino. I'm planning to bring my pack with all my goodies that I had in it, to show what worked, what didn't, etc.

If you are planning to come, please let me know. I can PM you my contact info, so if anything changes (we get hit with a tornado or something silly weather-related) I can get in touch with you.

I am hoping to have another gathering before the end of the year, too. This will probably be on a Saturday or Sunday, involve a walk (maybe the Eastbank Esplanade?) and a small gathering at a local restaurant if there is interest.

4 pm Friday... I'm going to be there.. on SKYPE.
I'll PM you my skype name.. maybe we can connect for 2 minutes sometime before just to be sure we can?

renegadepilgrim is my Skype name too. We are meeting at a coffee shop so not sure if we'll be able to Skype due to noise and whatnot, at the very least, we can chat first and see if it will be okay to Skype while we are there....hope it works!!!!

I hope John and Robin got to Roncesvalles before the big snow storm. I understand England got it worst and Heathrow has been closed for 2 days! But the storm went as far as Spain and Germany.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I missed you guys :::crying:::

Maybe next time... How'd it go?

It was good! Angela brought her sister, we talked about the Camino, I brought my pack and some of my Camino stuff to show her....we had coffee and chatted for about two hours. I really like Posies Cafe. I might start spending more time there.....it's a great neighborhood coffee shop! Next time, hopefully you'll be here in person!

We also talked about a monthly walk using this book I got from the City on Walks Around Portland. We were thinking of doing a walk, then gathering somewhere for coffee or food after. Once a month, on a Saturday is the plan so far. Planning to get going on this after the first of the new year!

Hooray! You know there are some beautiful walks in the Arboretum, and especially over on the north side of Burnside, past the Pittock Mansion. Less crowded than the Gorge walks. Hopefully I'll see you around May.

Sounds good!!! I think our first walk might be the Eastbank Esplanade/Waterfront Park Loop. We will definitely post whatever plans we have here for people to know about it.

Just created a Google Group for people in the Portland area interested in knowing about events.

Our first walk/potluck will be on February 12th at 2p. We will be walking the Eastbank Esplanade/Waterfront Park loop (2.6 miles) before heading to my house in North Portland for a potluck and socializing.

All peregrinos, past, present and future are welcome to attend.

As we get closer to the date, I will post more concrete information and directions. Until then, save the date!

Are there any dudes in this bunch? I don't want to feel like the creepy out-of-place guy in the midst of a Camino Lilith Fair...

I wouldn't worry about it....all are welcome. :)
