Is the Casa rural Koostei open in Olatz?
It's listed in the Wise Pilgrim app and printed guide. Gronze lists it as "cerrado".
In keeping with our aim to have stages under 20km, we're walking from Zumaia to the Izarbide albergue. However, if we don't get a bed (we're slow walkers and could arrive late), then I would like to make sure we have an alternative.
Unless the veterans in this forum suggest we stop in Deba, and then walk a longer stage from Deba to Markina (which we would not look forward to).
Advice/suggestions/opinions gratefully accepted!
Buen Camino

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I have walked through there twice and never found them open. Ended up walking 47km that day....... gorgeous walk though.

Hi, AJ,
I am pretty sure you can reserve in Izarbide. That would be my choice, it is a wonderful little slice of heaven up there in the hills, where you can spend the afternoon sitting in an old pasture on comfy chairs and gazing at the hills all around. And if my memory is correct, you can see a bit of the ocean as well.

Oooooohhhhh, I assume you are planning the 15 km off-camino Ruta del Flysch from Zumaia, one of the most gorgeous coastal options on the Norte. Lucky lucky you, AJ!

Hello Laurie!
I wasn't sure if I could make a reservation, and I remembered your post about Izarbide being back.

Sooo, I have emailed Izarbide, and shortly after I got a reply: "no se preocupe,le he realizado la reserva para dos personas para el día 7 de Septiembre".

Yes, definitely walking the Ruta del Flysch. Following your advice, Laurie!!! :)

I don't know if I can stand the torture of reading about your plans, much less the torture of reading about your actual experiences!
