These things are best dealt with by a donkey. Mine used to push dogs away gently (once) with a hind leg. If it came back she would push it hard enough to lift it off the ground and drop about 50cm. I only saw one come back for a third attempt...

A valid point, should you be willing to rise early. Personally I prefer to sleep longer and leave in daylight. In my opinion the Spanish have got it sussed!
