    Hotels along the way -

Hi. My wife and I who are in our 60s did exactly this a couple of years ago. No problems at all. If you like, pm and I will share itinerary with all the hotels contacts etc. Bag transfer by Coreos. The only thing you should have a reasonably good idea of is your comfortable walking range per...

Taxi to Orisson on Day 1

    But it’s such a lovely walk!😀

    Correos Rucksack Transfer

We have used Correos on 3 Camino with a Malaysian credit card and no problem at all. My experience with Spanish e commerce is that sites can sometimes be quite inconsistent with payment (Renfe is another) and occasionally persistence is required. Not that this helps you much I know, but it’s...

How to get from Lisbon airport to Porto?

If you have the time, you may want to consider taking the bus and stopping in Fatima which is about halfway. A few hours stop there is enough and it’s really something worth visiting. You can leave luggage in the bus station for a few euro. There are regular busses from Fatima to Porto. Depends...

Taxi to Orisson on Day 1

Absolutely right. If one has knee issues the forest route is a non starter. I found the alternative route quite challenging enough.

How to book my own lodging - what sites to use

We have done 4 Caminos, and for all of them booked all accommodation in advance for the entire trip. We know what we can comfortably walk each day, so based on that choose accommodation from booking, Gronze or Google maps. I only have basic Spanish but Google translate works fine for drafting...

@batty, excellent question. I will reply privately to you to avoid hijacking this thread.

You do you. It’s your Camino.

Taxi to Orisson on Day 1

I feel you. I have arthritis too but Frances was manageable. Just did a TKR and hopefully Norte in September So, taxi to the Virgin (can’t remember the name but there is a company that does a daily service) and walk after that. That takes most of the steep part out of it. Having said that...

Taxi to Orisson on Day 1

As others say you could leave SJ taxi to Orisson early and walk on to Roncesvalles. We split the first stage in two, walk to Virgin, taxi back to SJP, next day taxi to Virgin and walk on. If for some reason you must stay at Orisson then sorry, not sure if it will work. Maybe the taxi could drop...

Help choosing between CF, CdN, and VdLP

I would do the Frances. Don’t worry about the crowds. It’s only busy after Sarria. The beauty of the Camino is if you don’t want to speak you will be left alone. But a lot of the attraction of the Camino for me (I have done 4) is the people you meet, should you want to meet them, and your...

Where in Camino Frances (800km) Route Do I need to Spend more Time exploring the Cities/Towns?

All good suggestions. My 2 cents: Leave some time for Santiago itself. A few relaxed days, pilgrims mass, the park, wandering through the streets (maybe a walking tour?). Burgos and Leon for sure. If you like architecture, the Gaudí house in Leon, not just the edifice but the detail. Estella...

    newbie seeking advice Camino Primitivo

To me, Primitivo is the best, certainly better than Portuguese. Yes, less facilities but way more Camino spirit. We are 60yrs old and had no issues with the route or terrain (which is beautiful btw). Only somewhat mehh sector was Lugo to San Romao. Everything else is really nice. We didn’t do...

Ranking my top 10 foods from the Camino

Not on 35E per day and not from the same Camino but: 1. Burrata and Chuleton in Restaurante El Figón del Duque in Navaratte 2. Tomate tudela in Casa Carmen Estella 3. Baby Lamb at Asador Salamanca in Leon 4. Argentinian paradilla at 22 Al punto braseria Vigo 5. Pinchos at Bar Gaucho Pampalona...

When using booking.com, double check a city location first... it can be confusing...

Teradillos de los Templarios on the Frances. I couldn’t figure out why my hotel wasn’t on the Correos list. Then realized I had booked at a Teradillos somewhere near Salamanca. They were nice enough to cancel without charge😀
