    Driving/renting a car from Madrid Airport to Camino Destination.

    I rented a car at MAD and drove to Santiago. Roads are great and it was generally positive. Two comments 1) I accepted an upgrade, they gave me the biggest van in Spain; a nightmare on small town roads. 2) The highway tolls were huge but the highways were great.     Starting at cathedral worth it?

    You can jump start your trip by taking the train to Maia from the Cathedral area. Only miss some urban hiking.

    I used one on the Portuguese a year ago in September. I recommend one. But, get silk or a silk cotton mix. It needs to breathe to be comfortable.

    On a Lark. A neighbor who is a surgeon and ex Catholic priest was doing the Portuguese and asked me to go along. Glad I did, a wonderful experience. Taking my wife to do the Sarrea to Santiago next year. Buen Camino

    Bladder vs water bottle

    I use a bladder. However, I neglected cleaning while on the Portuguese. It became unusable due to an algae growth Used it again on the Beara in Ireland. Payed attention to cleaning and was successful. Also with the bladder it is easy to add electrolytes. Buen Camino

    two pairs of shoes vs one pair

    I took a pair of Tevas on the Portuguese and was glad I did. I wore Hoka Speedgoat 2's which were great. However, the last two days I got a pain in my foot arch. No pain with Tevas. Also really felt good on the pavement. Would not have been so great on the cobble stones earlier.
