Too many and too often!
Several local news websites are reporting that two peregrinos - one French and one Korean - were assisted by Guardia Civil late last night after suffering injuries by falling and becoming trapped by raised river levels in the vicinity of Pereje, near Villafranca del Bierzo.

Well, Google translate helped a bit...did the article imply that they ended up on the wrong side of the river and apparently not near the Camino?

Great news there save

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I'm glad they're ok but just wonder how they got disoriented. That section is well marked if they stay on the Camino, imo. Interesting - I'd like to hear the rest of the story.

Dehydration and low blood sugar, caused by too much exercise and not enough food and water, can certainly cause disorientation and lead to bad decisions.

Experienced hikers carry plenty of water and food to prevent this.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Thank goodness they were brought to the attention of the Guarda Civil ; it's been perishing cold and I'm a lot further south.

Flood waters and changing water levels in rivers and streams are serious natural events and should always be given full respect for the danger they present. With the planning and anticipation we each put into our camino journeys it is difficult to accept that mother nature is telling us "not today not this way". Be mindful and appropriately prepared, Buen Camino one and all.

Copy that.

I’ve been walking from Sarría and it’s been godawful cold, biting wind, and relentless rain. There were times today when I was seriously rethinking my lifestyle choices

So glad that the Garda rescued them. Inexperienced hikers and any combination of rough terrain, bad weather, a rain-swollen river, rain-slicked trail surfaces, weather or foliage-obscured trail signage, and simply going astray can lead to these peregrinos losing their way, falling, and becoming disoriented. Even seasoned hikers may infrequently mistake a river trail or well used animal path for the actual trail, and get lost for a time.

I came across pilgrims a couple of times who were on their way off piste, and waved them back on track. Happens
