Hi,
I am from Geelong and heading off on my third attempt at the Camino in September, start walking from St Jean on the 16th. My first attempt was in 2007 and I managed about 12 days before I lost my way..
Returned last year with my wife and granddaughter. This time we managed 420 k covering...
Hi all, I am attempting my third Camino; walked 300 odd k in 2007 before losing my way and then again last year with my wife and 15 yo granddaughter. Last year we only managed 450 k due to injuries, Achilles strain, to my wife.
I cannot get the Camino out of my mind and must come back to walk...
Hi all, my name is Rod and I am from Melbourne Australia. Karyn, my wife and I (along with our 14yo Granddaughter) will be starting out from St Jean on the 1st April. I attempted the Camino back in 2007 alone but only walked 10 days before taking a side trip with some folk I met along the way...
Hi, my wife and I are planning to walk the Camino in Oct 2011 (yes a long way off) but as time is restricted I was considering not walking the leg between Burgos and Leon.
Is this a reasonable approach or is there another segment (or two) which we should think about

Re: WALKIGN THE CAMINO IN OCTOBER 2007
Linda,
I leave Melb on 1 Oct and start walking on the 5th. Do you have all your kit yet? If not check out Backpackers Light just off Little Bourke St, they have been most helpful and reasonable. Best of luck and maybe our paths will cross. Enjoy the...
Hi Chris,
From one 50yo to another, good luck. I am leaving a couple of days after you and am also thinking of a stopover at Orisson. I will be pretty slow ( I have not done a lot of preparation) so our paths may not cross but you enjoy
Rod
Hi Bryan,
I am leaving Melbourne on the 1st of October and via Dublin will begin walking from St Jean on the 5th,
Maybe our paths will cross. The equipment topic is never-ending and although I don't think I will ever get it right I have decided to go with what I have. I have also opted for...
I will be heading out from SJPdP on the 5th of October and hope to finish about the 11th of November. My fitness level is such that I have no doubt Aarleks that if you arrive in SJPP on the 11th Oct and rest a couple of days you will still catch up with me.
Thanks Ulysse, I thought that it would be pretty dark around 6am, I also don't see the point in walking in the dark, I am sure there is more to see in the first couple of hours of walking than the light on the track in front of you. I may never get the opportunity to do this again so I don't...
This may be a little off topic but; I plan to start my journey 5 Oct out of St Jean, how much daylight will I have? What would be a good time to start out each day and still leave me with sufficient time to cover the 25 odd K's each day? I don't mind a little darkness but would imagine 5am or...
I was very excited :D to hear that Aer Lingus fly from Santiago de Compostela to Dublin but alas....This was the response I got from the Aer Lingus Site.
:(
Flights do not operate on your selected travel date/s. Aer Lingus operates from Mar 25 2007 - Oct 26 2007 on days Tue Sat
I am leaving from Dublin on the 4th of October. I have a flight from Dublin (you can also fly from Shannon) to Biarritz then will go by train or whatever to St Jean. The return trip I have not planned out that well yet but probably Santiago de Compostela to Stanstead then to Dublin.
Don't know...
Pleased to hear that there are others walking in October, I am heading out of Dublin on 4 Oct to start from SJPdP on the 5th.
Jen when are you heading out?
Sonia,
Very sorry to hear that you can't make it this year as you have been one of the driving forces behind me making my decision to go in October, but I know you will make it next year.
Keep smilin'
Finally made the big commitment, fly out of Melbourne on 1 Oct for Dublin, then on to SJPdP 4 Oct - start my journey 5 Oct. giving myself 37 days to finish - Hopefully our paths will cross Alex. Also would love to hear from anyone else who will be out and about at this time.
Enjoy
John H, Thanks. I will most definitly have a look at your blog. I hopefully will be finalising my flight out of Melbourne to Dublin tomorrow, arriving in Dublin on the 2nd October and then across to start from SJPdP on the 5th
I can wait no longer
