I’ll be starting at Porto on October 19, starting on the Litoral/Coastal route and then probably switching over to the Central at some point. I’ve been wondering this same question and have booked my first night in Porto and have pretty much decided to just wing it from there.
Give yourself a little extra time to find the right track/train if departing from Paris-Montparnase station. We found it fairly confusing, but we don’t speak French either. We asked several people and eventually found our train (there were two trains on the same track that were preparing to...
I've found that it's best to search for flights while "incognito" so that the airlines don't see you coming back later looking for the same route searches. I've found that prices tend to go up upon returning to search for something I've recently searched for, unless I go "incognito" first...
We had a very hard time finding open beds this past July (late July into early August) from Sarria on. We stayed in regular albergues as much as possible but occasionally had to stay in hotels or AirBnB's (we were trying to do it on the cheap) when no open beds were available. We ended up...
Just buy the local bus ticket as you board the bus, just outside the BIQ airport. Google maps here shows it as bus 4, but for some reason I was thinking it was bus C. Just ask the driver as you board the bus, to be sure. You can also ask the drive to let you know when you've arrived at Réduit...
We flew into Paris and took the subway down to Montparnasse train station (gare), where we then caught a highspeed train directly to Bayonne. We spent the night there and then took the early morning bus (that they have running from the train station) on to SJPP, and then walked up to Orisson...
We’re in Palas de Rei and ever since Sarria beds have been extremely difficult to find. Municipales don’t accept reservations so that’s always the safety net. We’ve ended up having to reserve hostales a few times in order to find open spaces, but are now booked through to Santiago. Before...
We’ll be starting the same day from SJPP. Staying in Orisson and Borda that night. Most of us are from Texas as well. (Group of 10 family and friends) Hope to meet you there.
Did anyone ever answer you on this, Ellen? I have the same question. I remember there being pillows at most albergues, but can't remember if they were the size we generally use here in the USA or if they were larger.
I walked the Frances in July-Aug in 2018 and got very lucky with weather. We did have some hot days, but nothing unmanageable. I remember albergues being very warm at night and having the constant differences of opinions with other pilgrims as to whether windows should be left open or closed...
I just booked accommodations in Pamplona for July 13th (about the time you mentioned) at the Camplus Pamplona. It's a student dorm that they use for guests during this time. (Not sure about other times of the year.) Looks like about a 10 minute walk to downtown area. The cost was $50euros...
Wish I had seen this before I left. I’m having a hard time with the confinement of my mummy liner bag. I’m also wishing that my pillow case were longer than normal. The pillows provided so far have all been very long, but comfortable.
Hello Ieraene!
I will start my first Camino on June 27 (Camino Frances) in SJPP and have been "playing with" several apps in preparation. The one I like most so far is the TrailSmart app. It has maps you can download and use off-line and your phone GPS will show you where you are. It also...
I will be in Pamplona on June 30 or July 1 and am hoping that this will be early enough to MISS the crowds attracted to the San Fermin "running of the bulls" festival that starts July 6th. Does anyone know if being there a week early will be enough for me to miss the crowds?
I'm thinking I'm just going to shave all my hair off and go bald to avoid having to wash or comb my hair. SIMPLIFY! That way I only have to worry about washing body and clothes!
Does anyone have a recommendation on a soap that will work for body/hair/clothes? I'm guessing that any soap will "work" but I'm looking for what works "best" and is easy to carry. What do pilgrims use?
