Thank you C Clearly, I was trying to point out that hospitaleros do have a responsibility to provide safe and sanitary conditions for pilgrims. Some people have health conditions that are incompatible with mould and slippery surfaces. It is good if they can be forewarned to make alternative plans.
So do you mean that it is alright to offer people unsafe and unhealthy conditions in an albergue? I am surprised that you could find mould covered walls and ceilings acceptable anywhere that the public is asked to pay. If this was in a bar or cafe would that be ok because it is a small business?
Your suggestion is a little strange because the albergue is not a municipal or donativo, it is privately run. It is therefore a business and I take exception to paying for exposure to dangerous conditions such as mould. Apart from this, the later arriving pilgrims received a clean and mould...
If you intend to stay at Hospital on the Camino Finisterre, please be aware that this hostel may pose a danger to peregriños with a mould allergy (which I have)The ground floor dorm, which is blue, had the ceiling and walls quite covered in mould. I did bring this to the attention of the...
Thanks Dave! I'm planning to do this tomorrow. I am very challenged by map reading (and steep ascents & descents) so I'm impressed with your detailed instructions! Super keen to avoid that steep climb out of Pontedeume and much prefer a coastal walk. 😉
Really enjoyed reading all your posts on the Camino de Madrid, Jungleboy. It seems like a lovely camino that I'll bookmark for the future. I was thinking about starting it in mid June but have opted for the Inglés - mainly because of the summer heat inland. Buen Camino 😊
Just a question about the need for trekking poles on the camino Inglés. Are there some tricky (ie: rocky) - ups and downs? I took a nasty tumble on the descent from Alto del Perdòn which I wouldn't want to repeat. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!
Loss of privacy 😐 For me the standout was the 4 bed pod in the albergue at Roncesvalles. I was the only female amongst 3 noisy snoring men and it was the worst, most sleepless night of my camino. Fortunately I gained a better perspective &was able to laugh about it later 😅
Shierly- if possible stop in Villafranca del Bierzo. Pretty little town & it's a must stay at the stunning albergue Leo. Fabulous, charming hosts- Maria & Mercedes will make you very welcome. Mercedes' husband played guitar as we ate breakfast in front of the fire in the dining room next...
Hi all, I'm trying to decide whether to walk the Meseta between Burgos & Leon this June or to do the Camino Ingles instead.
I walked the Frances in April/May 2017 although I skipped the Meseta due to blisters. I'm keen to do this section, although I'm concerned about the likelihood of high...
Great post Michael, thanks! By the way, the ubiquitous yellow liqueur that is popular in Galicia (and elsewhere in Spain as a digestivo) is called "hierbas" . It's made from herbs that are good for the digestion and similar liqueurs can be found all over Europe. Makes a very good end to a rich meal.
