I took a bus from Astorga to Leon. Alternately you could walk backwards on the Frances for 2 days to Leon but the Frances seems quite busy these days and I wanted to use the recent good weather days on the Salvador.
Thank you for that info. I have been debating pushing up my start date to very tail end of September/ First week of Oct. as I have some flexibility but would need to rearrange some logistics - Sounds like you would endorse that idea? I planned for later in the season to get the cooler fall...
I started on Aug 23rd last year. The precise date was dictated by the availability of a bed in Albergue Border. The first day up the mountain it was very hot and very humid so I was very pleased to have a "half-way" stop. The next day it was very windy, which was a great improvement on the...
Thanks very much for the info. We will walk this camino beginning september. We already prepared accomodations since we have heard the lack of albergues. Did you booked the hotel at Camasobres in advance ? We can’t get in touch !
Is the camino in reverse well marked from Potes to san Vincente...
Hi,
just to give a little perspective on things. this isn't a recommendation just simply some additional information.
2019 myself plus one (one of us just under 50 and one just over) set out from SJPP early Oct'19 at about 6pm - wasted half an hour getting lost and arrived at Orrison at last...
@Peterexpatkiwi suggested on another post that I tell the story of how I met my wife on the camino.
So rather than just a quick paragraph I thought I'd bore you all with the details.
The easiest way of doing this, is to share with you the statement (edited) that I made to the authorities when...
Me too!!! Do you have any idea about how crowded it will be and the weather? I'm a bit concerned because the albergues at beginning have few beds :(. And if it will be cold or rainy.
Some are going anyway? That is not a good idea. The advice is not given to annoy people but to protect them. There are times that pilgrims have died there because they lost their way in the snow or due to hypothermia. Others have been luckier and were rescued by the bomberos.
Is it fair to...
Thank you c Clearly. I searched Fiesta and am adding these to the thread in case it's handy to have in one place. Not sure how any of these affect accommodations or pilgrim traffic crowds. If anyone knows, please comment.
This thread has some very good lists/links down a couple pages...
I’d advise checking the weather forecast right up to the day of departure. I typically walk from mid September through to early April.
September can often be lovely and warm and dry - or totally the opposite.
My second Camino (2017 I think) was in September and I had very nice weather pretty much the entire time. I had a liner then and I always only bring a liner - end March early April too.
Some recommendations between your start and end point include: Estella - Albergue Agora, Los Arcos - Casa de...
Hi all,
I will be walking some of the Frances again starting in late September. My other two trips were in the early Spring. What might I expect in terms of weather in late Sept,-early Oct? Do I need a sleeping bag or will my silk liner be sufficient?
Also, if you have favorite albergues...
Hello! We are currently walking the CF. We started in St. Jean on April 11 and are currently in Navarret. Weather has been beautiful. The fields are very lush from the rains they had around Easter. Some trees are out, some are not. Lots of wildflowers. Lots of poppies too. Each year will be a...
Greetings. I walked the camino in September and October, had great weather, and got to see a bit of fall colors as I got closer to Santiago. The meseta was pretty bare because the harvest had already been take in. I'm thinking about walking the camino again next April/May to get a different...
This is a "time of year" thing. From May through September, the rain pants are not needed. Synthetic fiber walking pants or shorts will dry very fast. We all know that bare skin is also drip-dry.
I have worn REI "Sahara" 100 nylon fabric, zip-off cargo pants for the past decade. They dry from...
REI brand Helio is <$80. I took that with me for my Sept/Oct Camino from Leon > SDC. It is very compact and light weight. Use a compression sack to pack it down. It worked beautifully for me.
Our first Frances was from Sep 9th to October 16th. We brought 40 degree sleeping bags and they were far too warm. A room full of sleeping pilgrims can create a lot of heat.
We've been using the Sea to Summit Reactor Extreme liner. It weights .36 kilogram, so much lighter than a sleeping bag...
