This is how whatsapp deals with phone numbers while travelling: https://faq.whatsapp.com/514799537162613/?helpref=uf_share
So, it would only be in the rare case that you need to reinstall the app, for example, that you will lose the link between your Aussie mobile number and your mobile device...
Female, age 57, 168 cm, 60 kg.
I used an Osprey Eja 38 litre for the French Camino last year, and felt good enough to continue on to Finisterre and Muxia (over 1,000 km total).
I found the pack very good. It has 2 huge side pockets where I could carry snacks, a water bottle, sunscreen, etc...
I don't understand exactly what you need: "only need phone for whatsapp and accomm" and "want to keep my normal number".
In my experience, Whatsapp is the most commonly used method to book accommodation.
If you need to be able to receive calls on your Australian number, as was suggested...
When I walked the Francés in July-August this year, a Camino friend I met along the way had found a ring with the inscription: Anne 1994 / 2005. He's been trying to find the owner all this time, with no luck.
Posting here in case anyone has a clue, or any suggestions of where else we could look...
I recently completed the Francés and was very happy to have made it to Santiago with no bed bugs. I spent the night in Santiago, at albergue La Estación.
The day after, still in Santiago, around mid morning my fingers got itchy. Then one forearm. A bit later, my other arm. Clearly they were bed...
I came to Spain in July. I did my online research before the trip and found that getting a sim at the airport was a rip-off. I took a bus to Atocha (my hotel was around there) and bought a Vodafone sim at a newsagency at the train station. It's the 15€ plan mentioned above, including lots of...
That would be my preferred albergue if I stay in Santiago. I waa there a few nights ago, before my Finisterre/Muxía extension, and I liked it a lot.
Good to know driving time, thanks. Taxi cost would be around 22€ as mentioned in this thread?
Hi all,
Sorry if this has been covered before, but I can't find it 🤷🏻♀️
I will get to Santiago on Thursday, will pick up my luggage from the post office, and need to work out accommodation and transport, so I can catch a flight early on Friday.
My flight departs 8.30 and I suppose I should aim...
I will reach Ponferrada tomorrow and will be facing the same decision, although for different reasons.
I started at SJPP on 23 July. I read that on average, people complete the CF in 35 days. It's my first time, and I allowed up to an extra week, just in case. But I have been making good...
I am on the Camino now, currently in Astorga. My experience so far has generally been as reported above, plenty of beds everywhere - except the other day at Mansilla de las Mulas. Apparently the municipal albergue is closed, and the good private albergue, Gaia, gets booked out. I didn't try the...
I can't answer Q1.
Q2, I don't quite get it. I am travelling alone, and it's my choice whether or not I socialise. I am staying at albergues. I could easily stay in a corner with earphones on, or I can chat with people around me. In other words, you can be as alone or accompanied as you want to...
A fellow pilgrim told me that, as there was no accommodation at Zariquiegui, he decided to camp there. There was a nice lawn next to the church, and set up camp there.
Then, some guard (Guardia Civil? I'm not sure) told him to get out of there, without further explanation, and pointed to another...
I passed by Zariquiegui the other day. The day before I tried calling San Andres on 2 published numbers, no answer. On one of them I left a message, but they didn't call back. So, on the morning of my walk I made up my mind and pressed on to Uterga. I didn't go to the albergue's door to check...
The other day I posted about my good experience at a new albergue in Villatuerta, and said I would talk more about an advantage of staying at Villatuerta (as opposed to Estella) on a separate thread. Here it is:
At the albergue, I found out about an alternative route that goes via the Zaraputz...
Jordi, who runs Etxeurdina, said Casa Magica changed hands a few times and the latest owners only had it open for 3 months. Apparently the place needs extensive renovations, as you have observed. Such a pity that they couldn't keep it going after building an excellent reputation.
