Sucks if the last bit is true, and whilst cotton socks should generally be avoided by pilgrims and by long-distance hikers in principle, you may be one of the exceptions to that rule.

You use it when speaking with people in an official capacity, Police typically, but situationally it can sometimes be preferable to the usual británico or británica even in a simple Albergue.

I use savon de Marseilles -- and I've never had this problem.
If it's just the socks and no other clothing, I'd say it's possibly either some consequence of wear and tear on the socks, or some weird interaction between those particular socks and that particular soap.
Nor does being intolerant and unwilling to learn how to deal with your own sleeping difficulties.
