LIVE from the Camino Camino home to home, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

Though truth be told, rain is now a LOT heavier, and I am glad to be indoors ...

LIVE from the Camino Camino home to home, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

Today turned into an interesting test for my re-soled and sadly no longer fully waterproof 2014 Camino army boots. It's the Western Alps here, but the rain today is somehow decidedly Pyrenean. Not cold, heavy drizzle, fine and constant -- and at the end of it my socks were and are still bone...

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

Modern social security systems are inherited from Mediaeval systems put in place in Hospitals for the ill, the indigent, the excluded, and the pilgrims. Indeed !! :) A complex comment, but yes indeed. Though there's the element, true to present day, of pilgrimage for deeper veneration or...

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

And even if not, you could : Shock !! Horror !! put your sleeping bag down and sleep outdoors !!

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

Pentecost weekend, so yes, a huge one. Also yes, the weekends in Burgos and León are perhaps best avoided. Good luck going forward !!

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Nor does being intolerant and unwilling to learn how to deal with your own sleeping difficulties. Demanding that others pay extra €€€ for your own personal convenience is aggressive. And BTW just to be crystal clear I am not a snorer.

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

    Of course it is.

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Physical aggression against a sleeping pilgrim just because you are intolerant of snoring does not constitute "consideration".

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Not in my experience. I've found that in the Albergues, frequently those who complain most about snoring are snorers themselves.

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

THE absolute worst snorer I have ever encountered was my dad. Do not project your own difficulties sleeping as something to blame others for.

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

This goes both ways, given that snoring is an involuntary natural phenomenon. Those who are very aggressive towards snorers are more problem than solution. There is a breathing technique to move beyond it, which is learn how to breathe in rhythm with the snorers ; then practice it until it...

LIVE from the Camino Camino home to home, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

It's turning real again, which is somewhat crazy, as I really, really did think it was done. My medication resupply plus my various supplements all came in again over the past two days, plus my new 100% cotton boxer short underwear which is the best I've had since my teens. It actually fits ...

Manjarin: Tomás Martinez de Paz, the last templar

IIRC wolves are better at this than dogs. It's possible.

Manjarin: Tomás Martinez de Paz, the last templar

Last time I came across him was, well ... He was walking one of his half-wolves, I said hallo to the "dog", it came up to me and started licking my hand, looking super happy. I've never seen Tomás looking more shocked !!

Our deepest wildernesses are in our bodies, minds, spirits, and souls. Venturing out into those wildernesses is never an easy trip.

LIVE from the Camino Camino home to home, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

Probably just revert to my old plan of walking with my 2014 boots, despite their lack of waterproofness, warped leather, and general damage. Soles and heels are still thick enough, and it's not a Winter Camino. I can still make a detour at about halfway through France to pick up a new pair in...

Manjarin: Tomás Martinez de Paz, the last templar

He was up there in late 2022. This "not allowed" stuff is an old story, and whilst it was true for a while, AFAIK it isn't any more. He has shut down his donativo welcome mainly because there is a lovely young woman who has opened a business selling drinks and snacks in the village, and he...

LIVE from the Camino Camino home to home, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

My feeling is that this isn't happening ; and if not, I have no idea whatsoever why not. I have been called back onto the Camino anyway, as powerfully as I was in 1993 (three times), 1994 (actually in 1993), 2005, and 2014. This current Camino is rather complex !! And I still can't look at it...

Najera albergue reopens after renovation work

Looks like still rows of bunk beds, but a lot better than it was -- they seem to have reverted to the originally intended number of them, instead of cramming in whichever maximum extra number they could possibly fit in !!
