Brilliant. Love the style of reply too. I guess I'm going to be the dumb English only speaker again this year. :(
But then my Polish friend says I'm fortunate as they have to get by everywhere.
Thank you for the detailed reply.
A good predictor could be albergue vacancy rate in key starting towns (St Jean, Astorga, Sarria). This could be a good indicator of +X days to arrival in SdC. The WisePilgrim app has just added a voluntary feature where albs can self-report.
From my experience, I'll try to answer what I can.
"I'm guessing nearest airport for le Puy is Lyon? When landed in France, is the train or bus the better option to Le Puy?"
-I believe so on Lyon, thats where I landed. The train is super easy, I think I had to switch lines once between Lyon...
WisePilgrim was a big help, I just finished and with 1exception, we had few problems. Absolutely call/WhatsApp directly, the Booking message is something like “nothing available on Booking.com” which means their allotted rooms/beds are booked. They also have a message that says something like...
Thanks for the comprehensive reply - I am happy to hear that the coverage is generally good in Spain. I will have a chance to test it out before my trip as I have a trip to the UK coming up as well. I actually signed up for the 15GB plan, which generally is more than enough for me. I got...
Sorry for the super long post, but here's my experience with Freedom Roam Beyond, and my opinions!
I'm with Freedom Mobile, and am currently upgraded to the Roam Beyond 60GB plan, as I was doing the Camino Del Norte late March through early May. It worked really well for me. I had good cell...
One more thing. Gronze is only in Spanish, but if you use the Chrome browser it will automatically translate to English.
I also recommend using the WisePilgrim app.

Day 2: Vila do Conde to Esposende
Weird one today! Set off early with the hope of avoiding the rain forecast for later in the day, heading out of Vila do Conde with more lovely beaches to our left and making it to Aguçadoura not long after 10am. No toilets or water fountains that we saw...
It seems a lot of pilgrims go through the same thing. So I’ll be in good company😂
I love this!! Thank you for reminding me to focus on the good and not the what ifs. I’ve managed to meet a French family and am staying with them for now so I’m putting the Camino on hold at least for another...
Hi - I would recommend walking out of Porto via the river route it was beautiful. I have posted in the live on the camino with some photos to give you an idea. I found the Brierleys maps and wisepilgrim app helped me so I could move between the senda literal, the coastal routes. One thing I...
Walked to Ourense today. Still intermittent rain today and forecast for tomorrow. Much of the route today was along paved secondary roads, so firm footing and no mud. Galicia is beautiful.
Oddly, after we ended for the day, I can no longer open maps in WisePilgrim. I even deleted and...
Yes I know, all of my problems is because my totally imcompetence and no interest in digital stuff. And really hoped walking without. F.eks don't have WisePilgrim on this walk because the PayPal thing don't let me use paying by phone from my bank. Just an example, typical me. Bought a huge...
neither WisePilgrim nor Buen Camino are up-to-date for the Le Puy route [aka Via Podiensis] certainly as far as accommodation is concerned; understandably their focus is much more on the camino routes in Spain ...

there are lots of resources available for english speakers re Via...

Best to take the train from Lyon [Part-Dieu train station] to Le Puy-en-Velay via Saint-Etienne where you make a quick and almost seamless change to the local train ... one connection, generally in the afternoon, is to a bus

if flying in to Paris CDG [and not staying overnight] there is a...
You will be fine and have a great time honest!
Fear of the unknown is human nature but also part of the fun!
Just go with it and enjoy your journey; relax and even the bad bits make great stories!
When you finish i bet you will be thinking of the next one on the plane home.
Take the advice...
Suggest you read this well though out blog by Chloe Rose a Canadian journalist.

You may wish to consider a more modest introduction to French pilgrim routes by walking from Lourdes to SJPD (8 days).
The key message you must take away is that you will need to be far more...
I started walking from LePuy on May 13 last year.
Train from Lyon via St. Etienne is easy, I took the train paris to Lyon so don't know about the lyon airport to downtown connection..
It's not too early to make reservations now. I'm booking now for a section Nasbinals to Rocamadour in...
Thank you for the advice. I do have the 2 apps downloaded but am still learning how to navigate on them. I like the Buen Camino app and hope that will be enough as the other one seems a bit more confusing. Thanks again for replying:)
