Hello,
We are walking the Camino Frances west from Pamplona to Sahagun, then traveling to Sarria to complete the last 100k to Santiago
I’m a Type 1 Diabetic on an insulin pump and using DEXCOM continuous glucose monitoring device to manage glucose in conjunction with the pump. Despite...
Here some results from using the forum Search tool for "insulin pump." They are a few years old (pre-pandemic) but might be helpful while you wait for some more recent replies.
Currently on Via de la Plata, type 1 diabetic but not on a pump. I have self-funded a Libre sensor for the Camino (UK NHS doesn’t fund this for me) as I found finger pricking in the cold on the Camino Portugais a few years ago stressful and problematic. I find that I probably only need half the...
As a former drug representative who had a product for diabetes your advice is 100% correct. There is nothing better than natural sources of energy. Fruits that have high sugar and fiber content are great sources of energy. When you eat natural sugars that have fiber, not only is the fiber good...
I am type 2 and have been on the camino 5 times. Not for the first time, I forgot to take my medication but the exercise was keeping my blood sugar levels in check. Sometimes it is hard to get breakfast in the first 5 to 10 kms and metformin must be taken with food so occasionally I did forget...
Welcome, and wise of you to check this out far ahead. I have seen many responses to health questions begin with the recommendation that you talk to your own health professionals. Yes, the experience of other pilgrims with diabetes will be useful for you to hear as well. Enjoy the research!
Hi everybody! I am 58 & been diabetic since age 12. Im doing the camino april of 2019. I would love any feedback on what to expect with blood sugars and insulin control. I am on a pump. I am very active, but I know the camino will be above & beyond active. Thx everyone!
Hello! So excited to be walking the Camino this September with my husband and old friends! I am a type 1 diabetic using an insulin pump and a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) sensor to help control my diabetes. My biggest concern is the light weight, but bulky supplies I will need to complete...
NSAIDs are probably the most dangerous class of any medication mainly because of Gastrointestinal and kidney related side-effects. NSAID related hives are fairly uncommon. The fact that NSAIDs are available on the shelf also makes them seem safer than they are.
I tend to avoid NSAIDs...
We have very limited time in May 2018, so are planning SjPdP to Pamplona. I have just seen the “extensive” alberge list and was wondering how soon should we be booking rooms? Also I am an insulin dependent diabetic (Medtronic pump), will getting insulin be an issue while on the trail - just...
Kate, I walked with insulin pump and CGM. Your diabetes gives you a whole heap of complications over other peregrinas. Test your blood glucose more often while you are unwell and get that under control before you move on. As others have suggested, get some local medical help and make sure you...
Oztrekker, walked St Jean to Santiago in 21 days in 2013 and in 20 days this year ( lost 7 kgs on camino this year ) , type 2 diabetic so am a little careful with what I eat but obviously daily long distances give a fair bit of leeway. As a former competition cyclist in my teens and 20's, I try...
We used BOTH luggage transport AND backpacks because our trip continues onto Wales and then to London to visit friends and relatives.
Our packs contanied 2 liters of water each, plus 1 change of clothes (pants/shirt/socks), 1 down vest, 1 rain jacket, etc. Mine also included a small cook...

I have very very dry skin. Most soaps dry me out so bad that it triggers severe skin chafing on my face and legs which get very sore and uncomfortable. SO unless there is something out there that will work as well as a cleansing cream then I'm pretty much stuck. Hair is not so bad but...
Consider a solid bar soap that is sutable for Hair/Body & Clothes washing. Carrying liquid soap is simply carrying diluted solid soap that is mostly water. Look for a nice glycerine soap or Dr Bronners bar soaps.
As far as your meds, that is an issue we are working on now witih our daughter...
