Wise Debit Card on the Camino

I can freeze my Schwab debit card on the app. In fact I can do this with all of my credit and debit cards. It's pretty standard now. Last year I only used the "tap" function to withdraw cash from ATMs, eliminating any worry about the machine "eating" my card. Up until today I had always done...

Wise Debit Card on the Camino

Since you are in the US I strongly recommend a Schwab Account and debit card. It's so easy to set up, and you never have to worry about ATM fees anywhere. There's also no foreign transaction fees and no minimum balance.

    Backpack transport

You don't need a separate day pack. You can carry your regular backpack everyday. On days that you need to carry less weight offload heavier items into a lightweight duffel bag like this one from Amazon that @J Willhaus has recommended and send that ahead.

    Having something mailed to Santiago

If I were in this situation I would open an account at a new bank ASAP. You only need to fund it with enough money for your Camino.

    Having something mailed to Santiago

The website is mostly about sending packages and luggage to @ivar. You can send him a private message or an email to the address on the website about a letter sized envelope. (I'm assuming that's how they would send it)

    Having something mailed to Santiago

Firstly, will your bank send it to a post office and not an address? If so, here's the information on sending things to the Correos office. It's the instructions for sending luggage or parcels, but it should be similar for letters. https://www.elcaminoconcorreos.com/en/transfer-luggage If you...

USA to Madrid, Madrid to Cairo separate tickets

@Traveler89 I'm not sure why you have joined a forum for those who are interested in walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain to ask a non Camino related travel question. I recommend checking out the TripAdvisor Air Travel forum. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g1-i10702-Air_Travel.html

USA to Madrid, Madrid to Cairo separate tickets

But minimum connection times are for itineraries with protected connections, i.e., all flights booked in one ticket. In the OP's case, if they miss the flight to Cairo they will have to purchase a new ticket. Also, this isn't a Camino related question.

USA to Madrid, Madrid to Cairo separate tickets

Are they still considered to be an international transit passenger when they don't have connecting flights?

Wise Debit Card on the Camino

That's why I specified @laurenligreci in my post.

Wise Debit Card on the Camino

I'm going to say it again - @laurenligreci just get a FREE Schwab account. No fees, no minimum balance, all ATM fees reimbursed, easy to transfer funds from another bank, no hoops to jump through! https://www.schwab.com/checking/faqs

Wise Debit Card on the Camino

Seems like a lot of rigamarole when you can get a Schwab card which is so easy to use.

USA to Madrid, Madrid to Cairo separate tickets

If there are no delays or changes of schedules I think it should be okay. I would like a few more hours with an unprotected connection.

Wise Debit Card on the Camino

I second the suggestion of the Schwab checking account and credit card. It's really easy to transfer money from my other bank to Schwab and I have no worries about racking up a ton of ATM fees.

    Pilgrim.es

With a group that size a big part of planning will involve training and assessing how far each person is able to walk each day. If you want to all stay together I recommend stages that the person who can walk the least far can handle.

If I were in charge of planning for a large group I wouldn't mind a scapegoat if things go awry. 😉

Which apps for family to track me

There are no Camino apps that I know that will do what you are staying. Best to use the tracks native to Apple and Android phones, like Find my Phone and Google Maps if her family wants to know where she is in real time.

Progress tracker for myself and family

As I mentioned in the other thread, I use Find Penguins. I like how it creates a map of my Camino as I go. When you click on one of the places it takes you to the day's blog post. https://findpenguins.com/

How to get to SJPP from Biarritz?

This is s busy time of year, and I have no doubt that the shuttle will get filled up. As you know, everyone must have their own reservation in advance at least an hour before the shuttle arrives - they can't accept last minute people at the airport...
