Oh, I'm not afraid that they'll emerge at night from deep within the mattress!!! Zippered mattresses definitely have the added advantage, along with hygiene, of having less places/folds for bed bugs to hide though. It's then easier to check the mattress and bed frame.
Thanks for the ideas! The ultra-sil dry-bag sounds like a much better idea than a bin bag. I have used a bin bag in the past. To be honest though, as time passed, I only used it intermittently.
KinkyOne - you poor thing- 200 bites sounds terrifying!! I'd be tempted to go to the nearest...
You poor thing- I didn't think you could end up in hospital. I'm also terrified of getting bitten. I try not to think about it, but easier said than done! I feel like I'm the anti-insect repellent for everyone else!
My worst attack was last year and I ended up getting an anti-histamine...

Thank you. I appreciate the replies. I did think there were no buses that late at night, but it was still worth a try. I also think that a taxi would be the best option. Hopefully there might be someone who can share a taxi from the airport. Worse case scenario it will be a taxi for one now!
Hi everyone!
My friend is starring her Camino from Sarria tomorrow. Her walking companion had an accident today and can no longer go.
Her flight arrives at 21.05 - she wants to start walking on Tuesday, as she flies home again on Saturday. I cannot seem to find a bus that leaves the airport...
I almost kissed the ground when I crossed into Spain and saw the difference in the paths - Thank goodness for tarmac!
I took the metro to Vilar de Condar and then walked to Marinhas, as I only have 10 days (had to postpone my arrival by a few days due to a broken nose)
Having a lovely time-...
Thank you for all your help - on my to Tui today. I'm looking forward to the end of all the cobblestones! It's a lovely Camino with a very kind vibe. Plenty of people around - both pilgrims and non-pilgrims, So it feels safe!
I'm on the metro now- very easy to follow. I'm going as far as Povoa de Varzim, as I only have 10 days. However, I usually find the walk out of a city is never as bad as people say.
Thanks LGLG. I'd a few uncomfortable experiences last year on the Northern Camino (flashers!) and a few other odd experiences, which have made me a bit wary. It's heartening to hear that you had a positive experience!
Thank you! Done - I booked somewhere near the cathedral and now I'm just doing a quick scan of posts here, the Brierley Guide, packing and checking in for my flight! Just some jitters now, but once I'm on my way - the way! - I'll be fine! I'll definitely post something this time!
Evening all,
I've just gone mad and booked a flight for tomorrow evening; arriving at Porto airport at 22.30. I'm hoping to book accommodation near the camino, so I'm ready to go on Thursday morning. From previous experience I assume anywhere near the cathedral should be fine? I'm happy...
Thanks Peter,
Looks like around 400 started in Irun and about 4000 completed the northern camino in July 2016.
It's still difficult to gauge how busy it is from Santander onwards, but hopefully it won't be too quiet!
Evening from a rainy Ireland!!
It is that time of the year again when my thoughts turn to the Camino.
Three years ago, I walked from Irun To St. Vincent. It was quite strenuous but it was absolutely beautiful - lovely fellow pilgrims as well - still in contact with two.
Then last year I flew...
That's really interesting about B1!I've been bitten quite a few times, despite taken all precautions and my fellow pilgrims escaping unscathed. However, I am low in B12, so maybe I am in B1 as well and this is the reason they like me so much! I will definitely try this.
I flew to Biarritz on Bastille day two years. There was very limited public transport to Irun. As a result I did not get to the Albergue until about 9 p.m. They could not have been nicer and I think I got the second last bed in the overflow room (garage).
However for peace of mind I'd...
Thank you DJ King!
Finance and time are conspiring against me. However hopefully I'll get there!
Really surprising that there were so few on the camino, as it was quite busy this time two years ago. Hope you had a lovely camino.
Hi everyone,
It is that time again, where the camino is calling me. I'm tempted to fly out to Santander on Sunday, then walk for six days. Flights are surprisingly cheap!
Two years ago, I walked from Irun to Saint Vincente de Baquera. I didn't book accommodation and it worked out OK.
I'm...
