    Guidebook or accommodation PDF

...for a single. I can’t tell you the price of the hospice , because….er….. I benefited from the 100% discount for priests. Sorry about that. :D *******And it cannot be said often enough - if there is any doubt about weather, at any time of year, RING the hospice and ask for advice. It snowed...

    Guidebook or accommodation PDF

Oh and i should have mentioned the famous livret. You can get it from https://pilgrimstorome.org.uk/shop/guide-books/new-booklet-of-accommodation-and-services-in-france/ And much other invaluable information on Pilgrims to Rome site. That book only exists in printed form, deliberately, as...

    Guidebook or accommodation PDF

Hello @vleadbe I think most people visiting Switzerland are surprised to find just how expensive it really is. I don’t know whether you have been before? Everything is expensive. Not sure which way you are going. Geneva to Lausanne will be expensive. I actually stayed with friends as it...

Where to stay between the Padron and Santiago?

Hello @scc and welcome. See this recent thread about O Lagar de Jesus - only a few km from Padron and 16km on to Santiago. https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/o-lagar-de-jesus.87175/ https://www.gronze.com/galicia/coruna/escravitude/albergue-lagar-jesus

    Arrived from Camino Lebaniego (June/24)

And I just found this little bit of background discussion on wolves and bears on Lebaniego and Vadiniense (very much suggesting we don't need to be anxious) on Gronze. I'm quite often happily surprised to see how much additional material there is on Gronae. Leer más...

    Arrived from Camino Lebaniego (June/24)

Very interesting and useful thread. Thanks everyone. It’s on my list. Slightly anxious about 🐻 🐻 although I guess in reality the terrain more of a challenge. This ad is on TV here at the moment. Makes me wonder if taking a companion is the answer to the bear question? :D😂🤣

An old variant of the Ignaciano

Slightly tangential, but I met a guy working in a hotel when I walked the Ignaciano who told me of doing the Javierada....quite commonly done by him and his friends by walking for 24 hours! It is evidently very popular. There is a lot online about it. https://www.visitnavarra.es/es/-/javieradas

    Just.....it began in 2006!

An old variant of the Ignaciano

Oh thanks so much. How very interesting!! Interesting ancient thread on the forum here too... I think every link on the thread is sadly defunct. :-( https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/ignatius-of-loyola.3142/

An old variant of the Ignaciano

Very interesting. I wonder is there an account of setting up the [now Camino Ignaciano] route. It’s only about 20 years old (in one sense). The guide by Father Jose Luis doesn’t give much detail - but surely he would know!

An old variant of the Ignaciano

I am NOT doubting you 😉 but that seems quite a long way from the Camino Ignaciano! It doesn’t pass through Pamplona, but Logroño quite a bit to the west. The first day out of Loyola takes in quite a long series of railway tunnels and viaducts, but they are in pristine condition. 😀 It’s a well...

BP on the Catalán, June-July 2024

In Montserrat, I sort of anticipated by a few weeks my 70th birthday and booked into the 'proper' hotel, run - like everything onsite - by the Benedictines. I am a mere priest not a Benedictine. I don't have a vow of poverty - I just don't have any money. ;) It was my penultimate night on the...

BP on the Catalán, June-July 2024

Now you are making me sad that I missed that! :-( But I have to say that arriving on foot to Montserrat and seeing all the (lovely) tourists who had come up by cable car, funicular railway or bus gave a certain kind of warm feeling. And it is slightly like Disney World during the day but by 6pm...

BP on the Catalán, June-July 2024

Thanks @Bad Pilgrim very happy indeed to hear this. I walked Camino Ignaciano in Novermber so some of my way was the same in the opposite direction. I took the train though between Barcelona and Manresa. So I did walk part of the stretch to/from Montserrat. After Monserrat, the next day for...

LIVE from the Camino Santiago to Rome Part 1

sorry about the migraine. Lugo a good place to chill I think. I met quite a few dogs on that section (going the other way) and a lot of mud. I love the photos. My favourite type of path.

LIVE from the Camino Santiago to Rome Part 1

I remember the day I arrived, a long time ago now in 2016 ,Casa Benigno was "closed" (on a Sunday) but I had contacted them in advance and they could not have been more helpful. I remember a huge amount of "solid" food! It was retro then, so it must be even more retro now. ;) Buen camino. Tim

LIVE from the Camino Santiago to Rome Part 1

The Via Postumia passes from Genoa over through Piacenza (on the VF) and on to Eastern Europe. I guess it is more of a route to Santiago from Eastern Europe. I have pictures somewhere of 'arrows' outside the Basilica in Budapest which pointed you there. But from Genoa to connect with the VF...
