Hi Natalie
If you plan to start in Pamplona 32 days is not enough it's cold' rainy and even snowy.
You need to carry a pack because pack transfer might not work in March.
You will need rain and warm gear.
Don't fear though- you will get fit in 4-5 days.
There will be others walking with you, not...
I am happy to report that the alternative route entering Burgos is well marked.
Look for the yellow flash right after crossing the highway exiting Cabernejas directing you to the left.
March is a problem. Most places are closed.
The high parts of the trail might be snowed and impossible to hike like Aubrac
Do you plan on snow/cold weather hiking?
You have to call NOW and find out which if any are open and if open will they turn on the heating.
In general you will need high...
We will walk Pamplona to Burgos starting October 26th.
Usually I booked accomodations in private albergues during summer and busy season walks.
This will be my first early winter walk.
How crowded will it be? Do I have to book ahead
or trust there will be a lot of available accomodations in the...
I understand public albergues will be open and most private closed.
That means having to phone ahead private ones to make sure they are open
How "bad" is it,?
somebody who is walking now has told me that some public albergues
Had stopped supplying blankets because of bed bugs.
She recommends carrying a light sleeping bags.
True?
Hi Yael
I have walked twice from Le Puy
Go to my Israeli site
Hike.co.il
I can help you. i myself will walk a segment from Pamplona to Burgus middle of November (again)
Zammy
Started yesterday from Limogne en Quercy, now in Cahors.
Where is everybody?
Gites are empty, trail empty
It's only late August.
Where are those who started in Le Puy 3 weeks ago?
Don't take any chances, book ahead and cancel if your plans change.
This year there were fewer people because of the terror attacks.
July and August is the "youth" time to hike and from my experience the gites will be booked.
If you are unsure, try booking in -May June and "feel" the gites...
I sugest that you rent a car in Grenoble and drive it to Rodez. From there take a taxi to Conques.
I did it myself and it should be the fastest way to get to Conques.
I am pleased watching how a simple breakfats thread got so much attention..
I want to make clear that I am ready to pay 5 Euros for breakfast but it better be worthy. 5 is a lot to pay for a 1 Euro worth cup of "not esspresso" coffee, 1 croissant, a small piece of butter, a few slices of...
To Purplesage- Sorry.
I edited my message.
Being Jewish I am not that familiar with these religiouse dates especially in Spain.
Shall I plan to arrive on December 30th or January 5th?
would you pay 5 euros for breakfast which generally means day old bread, some jelly and butter, very weak coffee and maybe orange juice? too expansive and not worth it.
if you are near a bar and boulangery eat your breakfast there even if it means walking some miles to it or buy the essentials...
Main change- switched to private albergues, espacially those who serve dinner and a good dinner.
Switched lo lighter hiking shoes, even sneakers all-terain
Carried less first aid.
Took more videos then still photos.
Spend more time in Santiago
walk the 3.5 days to Finister
Auvillar, one day after Moisac.
What to expect: closed gites, very few people?
My guess is that we"ll meet pilgrims who had started from Le Puy 3 weeks before , so there'll be some pilgrims on the trail.
