    changing paths

I have already walked both routes. Yes the Central does have alot of road walking and a fair share of cobblestones. There are also some really beautiful stretches and towns like Ponte de Lima, my favorite camino town. I also walked in 2017 when the CP was far less popular. There were very few...

Type of bike for Camino Francés

Hi, just to give a little perspective on things. this isn't a recommendation just simply some additional information. 2019 myself plus one (one of us just under 50 and one just over) set out from SJPP early Oct'19 (probably a little off season and therefore not masses of pilgrims to avoid) at...

Do you drop any personal restrictions on Camino?

I rarely see anyone when out walking my dog, admittedly they are very short but frequent walks as she is very old. I live in a bizarre world where most people do not walk. My arduous, completely hill free 1km walk to the grocery store will usually be entirely vacant of other people until I get...

    Hello 😃

Hello Nita! I did the Camino Primitivo in September 2022 and I’m planning to do the Camino Portuguese this September 2024. I also took an extra day in Lugo and an extra day in Santiago. I used a company called Follow The Camino and they were great. They set up all of my accommodations and took...

    changing paths

I am now over 80 years, and walked the Portuguese last October, though 20 days of rain rain rain. I walked from Porto up the coast to Caminha, then, because of gale winds, high tides and BIG waves, chose to go inland to Tui, and up from there. There are stop-off places all along the way. I have...

Disfrutar named best restaurant in world.

Hi Camino Chrissy, I've been following your most recent walk on VDLP. I'm planning to do a small (120km) in September. Do you know anything about the weather that time of year on VDLP? I am only planning on 15-18 km per day, starting in Ourense. Do you have any suggestions? I am 73 and healthy...

Molinaseca to O Cebreiro stage mess up?

I shared a taxi with two Mexican women -- there are apparently usually a taxi or two waiting when the bus comes in.

Molinaseca to O Cebreiro stage mess up?

O Cebreiro is harder if it's at the end of a day IMHO. The weather can play a part of course I've gone Trabadelo to Fonfria, Trabadelo to Filoval and last time '22 VDB to Fonfria all in busy Septembers without booking If you have time constraints or O Cebreiro causes concern, you could always...

    October Camino - shorts?

Personally I used to take convertible pants, but now only long light weight hiking pants. Keeps dust out of shoes, and after hot summer it WILL be dusty. Obviates sunscreen on legs. If I want shorts, I just roll them up and safety pin them. Lighter, cheaper and easier to wash than convertibles

Which Camino and which stages for our first Camino

Starting in San Sebastian is a god idea because it is really beautiful. Early September may be rather crowded though. Buen camino

    October Camino - shorts?

My wife and I splurged on Fjallraven hiking shorts and pants. Each time we hiked Camino Frances (4 times) from mid-September to late October, we alternated between shorts and pants and this worked well for us. Never know what the weather will be like, but hiking in shorts in sun or rain was...

Which Camino and which stages for our first Camino

Colin Consider Burgos to Leon on the French Way. That is 8 stages ranging from 19 to 27 km each day. Burgos Cathedral is a must see. If you find 8 days too many you can catch the train from Sahagun to Leon ( half way between Terradillos and Bercianos) or to your airport of exit. Sahagun has...

    October Camino - shorts?

I'm currently refining my packing list for the Camino Frances, starting in SJPDP on September 24, and walking through to the end of October/beginning of November. While I understand that the weather is varied and unpredictable, in your experience(s), is it worth bringing a pair of shorts for...

The case for preserving the descent into Zubiri.

I agree. My third trek on that section was September 2023 at 73 years old. As hard as it is, the beauty of the rock formations and the trail should be preserved. Slow and thoughtful when you take on this section is the key.

Which Camino and which stages for our first Camino

Hi there, Not sure where to post this so please move as best. I am looking forward to walking for a week on one of the Camino stages in September due have no idea which would be the best option? My wife and I are in our 50ks reasonably fit - dog walkers rather than hikers so 20km per day would...

Mid-April to mid-May Camino Francés, my experiences, insights, mistakes and lessons

Well written - great thoughts and advice - thank you! I walked the Frances in the Fall shoulder season, mid-September to mid-October and want to return to walk the spring shoulder, mid-April to mid-May like you, so this was helpful (I also walked the Portuguese in the spring shoulder season and...

    Oct/Nov

I am considering moving up to this year. I would probably start Oct 1 but leaving home on September 27th, arrive 28th, and 2 days for last minute errands and jet lag.

Which month has flowers blooming in the Camino? Is April Rainy?

No matter when you walk - april/september, you will have the most gorgeous of flowers blooming all over this country, all having their own seasons. The weather, read stastistics wherever, but you can never predict rain no matter when or where. Its like it is, your flowers and plants need water.

Beds in First Stage Albergues - Current Situation, late May 2024

I always like to know a bit about the hiking and long-distance walking background of a forum member before I reply on this topic. So I read just now that you did the Camino Francés in your 70th year in late winter from St J p de P. The weather was vile most of the way and it took you 26 days and...
