LIVE from the Camino On My Way to the End of the World :]

Wheelies in the Dark - Part Two -Manciet- Spoilers, but Manciet is another one of those towns where you think you’ve arrived near on ten minutes before you actually arrive, but it gets a part for being absolutely hilarious. One of the first immediately visible structures is a large bulbous...

    Finding Camino Patches

I found it after finishing our Ponferrada to Santiago de Compostela camino on March 2nd. I've been many times, and got a few of my favorite patches. It is loaded with every patch one could ask for, and the owner is a joy to see each time I go to Santiago. My new favorite patch is the Galicia...

Altra Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX - first impressions

Hi, I’m curious about how you found the Ingles, walking in March, as I’m starting the Ingles on the 13th of March and the weather looks atrocious, raining every day! Which shoes did you end up walking in?

Lovely descriptions ! Thank you so much for taking us along with you !

A word of warning on trail runners or light weight shoes.

Peter, I'm surprised at you. You obviously haven't walked distance on trails before. Probably the first cardinal rule of shoes suitable for walking is a firm sole. You are walking distance day after day, no let up. You really have to get the footwear right. There must be acres of words of advice...

LIVE from the Camino Winter Camino Portugues Central

Day 2 saw me set off under some blue sky, which was very welcome. I was staying on the track as it heads out of the town, and it wasn’t much walking along the road (note: on pavement) before the track turns off and starts winding down between trees. A river to the right was spotted, and then my...

    Finding Camino Patches

The store is on the same small plaza as Froiz Market . Google streetscapes is too dark to see a name.

Portuguese coastal in February '24 – observations and reflections

I really appreciate it when people provide trip summaries like this. Yours was excellent! Thank you. And, as an Instagrammer, I understand the good-natured reference, and I'm not offended at all.

Portuguese coastal in February '24 – observations and reflections

OK, so as someone who has a walked a few caminos already, some that tested me physically and mentally, I’ve tended to write off the Portuguese coastal as something of a camino lite for the Instagrammers. But I found a two week window in dreary UK February and decided to take a punt on it. I...

    Finding Camino Patches

I’ve been to a store 2-3 times in the past several years that has every sew on patch imaginable. Over 100 types with routes, distances and years. It’s a small store, still inside the city center less than a km from the cathedral. Does anyone know the store? It is not any of the ones within 100M...

    Topo Wearers!

I’ve been an avid Lone Peak wearer but don’t like the new models. Wish REI carried Topos in store so I could try them on but ready to order and see what works. Did you find you wore the same size in the Topos as the Lone Peaks?

    Topo Wearers!

Which Topo model did you wear, ShoshTrvls? Thanks for sharing your experience with the size, it’s very helpful!

    Topo Wearers!

The Traverse look like a great shoe! Topos are not yet easy to find where I live, so it was really only a choice between the Ultraventure 3, the Terraventure, or the MTN 3. I would love to try the Traverse on to see how they feel!

    Topo Wearers!

How far have you walked in the Traverse? Have read about them, but they’re very new so there are few reviews of them.

    Topo Wearers!

...bought a pair of the brand new Topo Traverse (just launched in Canada) for every day on the trail and they are terrific…..light, robust, breathable, quick dry, wide toe box and Vibram sole (for those Portuguese cobble stones). I am so thrilled with them, I purchased a second pair straight away.

    Reflections on the Senda Litoral

I walked the SL/Coastal route in October with a friend and we had no problem getting twin rooms in small hotels and guest houses. We were never able to get a private twin room in a hostel booking only a few days ahead. Twin bed rooms are much more common than in North America. In towns look for...

    Cobblestones and Setts

Setts are what much of the Portuguese route is paved with, and what most are referring to as cobblestones. Definitions and pictures in this post

    Cobblestones and Setts

I remember plenty of setts but not true cobble stones. I walked it 10 weeks after an ankle fracture. As long as I stayed to the side of the path I didn’t find it terribly uncomfortable. what I would be concerned about is that some of the unpaved areas are very rough with some very steep...

    Cobblestones and Setts

The sidewalks and Camino in Portugal are paved with setts, which differ from cobblestones because they are not natural rounded rocks. Here are a couple of definitions: Setts are square or rectangular quarried stones most commonly made from Granite or Limestone that are cropped / cut into...

Notes from a newbie on my Camino Portugues

When I did the Portuguese Littoral/Coastal in late October 2022, I took the Coastal route from Baiona up to the option point at the Citroen factory, as it was too stormy to do the Littoral route along the ocean that day. At the option point, where markers point both left and right, I went left...
