My iphone 8 worked well while I was on the CF last year. Of course make sure you have a good screen protector; my protector gave is life to save the phone screen and I replaced it for a few euros. Also make sure the phone is backed up on icloud. If you are concerned about the phone being lost...
This may be a long shot, but if your city has an Asian market, in particular a Japanese grocery store such as Mitsuwa, they may stock Aquarius imported from Japan. It is similar to Spanish Aquarius and you may like it.
Don’t forget those 1 or 1.5 liter cartons of zumo de you-name-it. Orange juice and apple juice were my go to flavors. It was always consumed by noon the next day.
Great question. Before walking a large part of the CF, I followed this forum for over a year, watched countless you tube videos, bought a guidebook, studied maps and websites, ... But nothing was more important than joining a local group of Camino veterans for their monthly walks. They were so...
Hi Mikeylats, if you have the free Wise Pilgrim app, you can see which towns have bus or train service. Then use rome2rio, alsa, or, for trains, renfe to get detailed schedules. Buses and trains are comfortable and fast. Buen Camino!
My credit union (similar to a bank) refunded all the ATM fees in Spain, some of which were 6-7 euros. OP might want to check to see if their bank does the same. I preferred using cash (on the CF) with the exceptions being transportation and lodging that were booked online.
I just finished the CF a week ago. I’m a slow walker. After Sarria I was being passed very frequently and I can’t say I liked it. But OP might have more options to avoid crowds on the CF. Many, myself included, started early to avoid the afternoon sun, which even in Galicia can be very hot...
It means Golden Ticket. It is card that gives you about 25% off Renfe train tickets if you are 60 or older. It is my understanding that this card must be purchased at a Renfe station where you show proof of age to the agent and pay 6 euros cash. Once you have your Tarjeta Dorada you can...
When I was handed my compostela I burst into tears. The staff member quickly grabbed my hands. It was a very tender moment; one I will always remember and cherish. Also, it was raining on that day in Santiago and it caused the ink from some of the stamps on my credencial to run. I simply...
I can tell you that today I walked to the Santiago train station and bought a ticket for Madrid tomorrow. It’s about 3.5 hours. If you are 60 or over you can get a discount (tarjeta dorada).
I find I make many tiny purchases, at bars, etc., and find that cash is very convenient. I have frequently seen 30 euro minimums for card use. I believe municipal albergues are cash only. ATM fees vary widely from 3 to 7 euros so if you do your homework you can save.
It is important to check that the bar/restaurant has pintxos before sitting down and ordering drinks. I’m travelling alone but I would eat with other pilgrims who schooled me on how to order. Also the waiters are smart and want to help you get what you want. Many don’t speak much English but...
Hi, Michael, I’m writing from just past Astorga on July 18. I have not had a drop of rain in two weeks of walking the Frances. Many days it gets hot after about 1:00 PM, but surprisingly often it stays cool all day. Mornings range from comfortably cool to downright chilly. I have stayed in...
I just wanted to thank the hundreds of you who helped prepare me for my Camino. It’s very hot here after noon, up to 38 C on this coming Tuesday, but there are plenty of pilgrims of all ages; we all start really early. It’s a wonderful time to walk. You barely have to pack anything and it is...
