LIVE from the Camino HELP!! Nowhere to stay tomorrow

The other option to taking a taxi is to get a local bus. These are really comfortable and cheap.

    Valcarlos albergue

There is now a combination lock and the code is now on the front door, so no need to get a key from a bar.

    Valcarlos albergue

Yes, definitely open. Stayed there on the 11th April. Cost was Euro 15. If coming from the D128 don't walk all the way to the top but take the path towards the Arretxe Fronto-Pilotalekua black and white building and turn right, Albergue is at the bottom of the steps

What size rucksack for two weeks on Frances

Make sure the one you choose will qualify as hand luggage and can be carried in the plane. Being able to carry it with you through airports makes the journey less stressful and quicker and you do not have to worry about it being left behind somewhere.

Calling all spreadsheet nerds, I need planning inspiration!

Ouch!!! I had forgotten how expensive the UK is and what great value for money accommodation in Spain is in comparison.

Where to buy a credential in León, Spain?

San Francisco de Asis also have Credentials for 2 Euros each if the other sources have run out

    The beautiful Primitivo

Thanks for that. I am starting the Primitivo on September 28th and look forward to all the peace and wonderful hotels you have described

    Castrojeriz to Rabanal

There appears to be only 1 bus a week from Astorga to Rabanal del Camino. It leaves on Fridays at 13.30 and costs 2.8 Euros. I agree with the others; start closer to Santiago and allow plenty of time. If you get there early you can carry on to Finisterre or Muxia

    Camino movies!

Tres en Camino is also known in English as Within the Way Without and was written and directed by Lawrence Boulting. I got a copy from the CSJ but they appear to have sold out.

    Camino movies!

Another good film is The Road to Santiago ( Noah Ark Productions) which is free on You Tube, nicely made by a real film maker, who was inspired to make the journey after a life changing experience. Only problem to anyone outside the Uk is his Scouse (Liverpool accent) !

    English Camino

Yes bus from Santiago takes 1 hour 20 minutes and is less than 10 Euros to Ferrol.

Iberia Carry On Luggage Restrictions and connection questions.

I also flew Iberia last month connecting in Madrid to the Santiago flight. A 45 litre backpack was not a problem. Be aware you will be landing at the Satellite Terminal and have to clear Passport Control before transferring on the underground train to the Domestic terminal. There was a big queue...

Travel from Santiago Airport to Sarria

Alternatively you can stay in Santiago the first night then get a Monbus to Sarria. I think it leaves around 11am and will take around 2 hours, so you can start walking the same day after getting a stamp from a cafe etc. if you are a reasonable walker then Pontemarin may be possible. Cost of bus...

Hospederia San Martin Pinario are the rooms in hostal ok

The bathrooms are the main difference between the Pilgrim rooms and the others, with the shower and toilet being much older but still very functional. The rooms are the same size and windows smaller and higher up. In addition to the buffet breakfast San Martin normally has a three course evening...

Are trains from Bayonne to SJPDP not available in April?

My flight to Biarritz arrived too late to get the same day train to SJPP, so I had to overnight in Bayonne and got the first replacement bus the following day. The bus appeared in the car park next to the station and after a leisurely journey got to SJPP at 8.10 am so after walking to the...

    TV program alert for Aussies

I have seen this programme in the UK and it is a big improvement on the previous two series. The participants seem to respect each other’s opinions and don’t concentrate on scoring points off each other. It is a trail with a lot of history and an interesting Muslim / Christian / Jewish balance...

Updated list of Albergues on the Camino de Madrid

Thanks for this ! Hopefully things will return to nearer normality and this route looks ideal as there are very few peregrinos and reasonably priced hotels/hostals where separation will be good.

    December Camino?

Walked in December twice - in 15/16 there was a lot of mist and rain and visibility at times was very short especially on the higher ground. In 16/17 after a cold start each morning it warmed up and there were blue skies every day - managed to get to SJPP without getting wet ! So weather can...

    Delays at Madrid

Last Saturday there were no delays into Madrid. Coming back I expected a long queue at Passport Control but was surprised to see no one waiting so passed through in a matter of seconds. British Airways had warned of delays of about an hour via email and text.
