    CF Leon-SdC start 17/9/21

After several Camino sections decided, from the 'shortlist/wishlist' of open ends, for the Leon-SdC 2 wks. Considerations: less pilgrims, limited/restriced capacity of beds, enough facilities on the route. All in favour for the CF instead of the other routes this year. Booked for the first 3...

    Norte this July...

Apart from the advise to travel light, I always take a 'knee band' with me for just the little extra support (especially steep downhills!). Forget about the dog repellent, the few ones are used to peregrinos. Bon camino!

    Norte this July...

In the busy times it would be advisable to try to book friday and saturday a few days in advance if you want to be sure. The locals often book hostels for the weekends. Alternatively you could avoid bigger cities in the weekends. Assume that you have your options also known from www.gronze.com...

    Newbie with lots of questions!

Yes bus schedule info is often available in the Auberges and hostals. In general peregrinos take the Metro out of Bilbao and the train out of Santander (to Mogro) to avoid some 'boring' parts. You might also want to use the bus in case of a very long etappe, on a rainy day, or depending on your...

Hostal reservations along the Camino del Norte?

Hello Sheleen, I've just returned from CdN. Via Gronze website you might have some idea about the capactiy of beds at certain places. Already 1st half of may the Albergues with limited capacity were quickly full. (we found at Guemes where everyone wants a stop at Cabana del Abuelo Peuto that...

    Train to Irun

Hello Ellen, I'm flying with Ryanair from Weeze to Santander (return abt 70 Euro) and take the bus (Alsa.es) from Santander to Irun (abt 15 Euro). I will not walk the whole CdN, but only 2,5 wks. For train tickets: to book 3 months in advance will give you the lowest fares. Bon camino,

    Aragones 1 May 2015, from Pau/Lescar

From Jaca, don't miss the detour via San Juan de la Pena (check opening hours). You can stay overnight in Santa Cruz (reasonable priced hotel) or Santa Cilia (hostel, refugio and B&B). Another great detour is the 'Devils bridge' or 'Puente de Diablo' after Sanguesa direction Foz de Lumbier...

Starting from Irun May 2 - Two Questions

Hello Natefaith, I'm starting the Aragones on the 1st of May. As the weather can vary enormous in the North of Spain, and I don't like to walk in the heavy rain: my plan is to take a bus on the really rainy days and depending on the fellow peregrino's one will meet. Bon Camino,

    Camino Portugues - May 2015

I can recommend the Quinta Estrada Romana as I've stayed there in May 2014 (when is was not completely ready). The place is really worthwhile to stay and renovated in style. Their website is: www.beautifulboot.com with phone: 351 251 837 333 . They might have been away for the winter months...

    The days after Santiago

Hello 19SH, If you want to go to Porto by bus to catch your flight, don't forget to get your busticket in advance (maybe after you've decided what to do the last days) to be sure to be on board. On the route from SdC the next one goes 4 hours later. Bon Camino,

    May Day Holiday

Hello Peregrinos, My experience last year is that the long weekend with 1st of May is used by many Portugese (MTB) cyclists to go from Porto to Santiago in 3/4 days. (they go back by minivan). At refugios the walkers always have priority above cyclists.

Leaving Porto around April 20 2014!

Yesterday I've booked my flight to Porto on the 25th of April 2014. Thus starting the 26th and avoiding the Easter weekend. It seems the cheap tickets on flights are filling up now. My idea is to head for the Coastal Portuguese route. Anyone with the same schedule or joining from the Lisbon...
