    Seized pack zips

So the solution is in! Soaked three of the four zips in vinegar from 4 hours to overnight and with a bit of strong manipulation and a couple of broken zip pulls they came open. The fourth zip I used a product called CLR (Calcium Limescale Rust Remover) available in Australia. The main...

Well, this will be my job for this morning! I will try all (vinegar first I think) and report back! 🤩 Thanks to everyone for your advise! ❤️

    Seized pack zips

I pulled my Osprey pack out today to prepare for the Portuguese in early May. Last time I used it was in 2016 for the Frances from SJPDP. Unfortunately some of the zips have seized and I’m having difficulty opening them. Any suggestions for getting the pesky things open? My husband is hoping one...

    Not what I expected!

My everyday mantra was “when I’m stepping on my shadows head, it’s time to stop and find a bed!” 🥰

If you are staying in a private room are you tipping the help?

Australians don’t tip unless exceptional service is given, and then maybe $10 or $20. Many wouldn’t even tip then. Certainly not a percentage and it needs to be exceptional. All our employees are paid good wages with overtime and penalty rates for public holidays, etc. We are not a tipping...

    A Must Read

I just ordered this book from their website, https://www.booksactuallyshop.com/ There is a $19 international shipping fee to Australia which made the total in Australian dollars $52.15. From the lovely shared video I am happy to pay that for such lovely, whimsical memories of my walk in 2016...

Where to buy Shell for backpack

I picked mine up on the Freycinet peninsula while on a holiday with my husband in Tasmania. We stopped for a sandwich on the beach and I noticed a scallop shell close to us. My son drilled a hole for me and I tied it to my pack with a ribbon in the colours of Ethiopia. I had worn the ribbon in...

    Camino Souvenir

A small crook from the back yard forge near Irache winery. Not heavy to carry and a special token of memories.

How safe is it to begin the day before sunrise from SJPP?

Take your time and relax! Wait for the light, stop at Orisson, and enjoy the afternoon, evening meal and next day even more! It's not a race, slow down from the beginning. Buen Camino!

    Samos Recommendation

I agree. The detour to Samos included some of my favourite walking on the Frances and the village of Samos is delightful. I loved the tour of the monastery also.

    A very good read indeed

I read this before my Camino and I must say it was very helpful. I am a reasonably light packer wherever I go but found some great tips from SYates. I am happy to say that there was nothing I would have changed in what I packed for my 50 day Camino from SJPP to SdC this year! Thanks SYates!

    Best Apps for Camino Frances?

I used eCamino which is based on John Brierley's guide. The gps positioning was extremely helpful for making sure I had taken the right turn, in the countryside but especially in the larger towns! It does list albergues available but I found the rest of the app pretty useless. Very little, and...

Looking for Daniel from England...walking with crutches

He was in Gaucelmo albergue in Rabanal on June 29. Doing well by the look of it and keeping going! When I passed him he was singing. :-)

    Let's try again.....

After planning and being all geared up to walk in May 2015, I had to cancel my plans as my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer and they also detected a large tumour on his kidney which he had removed. 12 months later he is fit and healthy and I feel ready to leave him and walk again. I am...

    Class of 2015

Unfortunately I have had to cancel my plans for this year. :-( I fell and have some tears in the meniscus in my knee which will require Physio and my husband has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. I want to be around to support him through these first steps of confirmation biopsies, surgery...
