Just returned from Primitivo - our route and places we stayed

We had great weather - got "spit" on a couple of days, which stopped as soon as we put on all our rain gear! Other days around 15 C - a little cool if you were just sitting outside, but great hiking temperature.

Just returned from Primitivo - our route and places we stayed

Yes, on most of the days and stops listed above there would be another stop say 5 km down the road - so you could do a few more longer days and make it work.

Just returned from Primitivo - our route and places we stayed

Just finished the Primitivo, and it was the experience of a lifetime! I thought I would share our experiences as it may give some guidance. Before going through the stages, a couple of general things: 1. Food can be a real difficulty. In the smaller places, bars serve lunch from 2-4, and...

    Planning my return home

Perhaps we will - we arrive in Oviedo on May 9th, and will depart on the 10th. And you?

    Planning my return home

We're flying in from Canada right through to Oviedo, arriving late afternoon after about 24 hours travelling. We'll overnight in Oviedo, then the next day to the short trip via the Naranco sites, just to get going, but keep that first day short. We have a very limited time - we're doing it in...

    for women only...

I had a sales clerk recommend this as well - but he used the phrase "chub rub" - referring to those chubby thighs rubbing together! :)

    Cash on the Camino Primitivo

Thanks! This is great information, will definitely look it up before going so we only need minimum cash. However, what's a good "daily" budget to have for food and shelter? we'll eat out - won't try to cook in even where facilities are available.

    Cash on the Camino Primitivo

We are walking the Primitivo in May, and are planning on moving pretty quickly - 11 days in total. How much cash should we bring along? I assume there are bank machines in places like Lugo should we run short?

    Silk liners...why?

I tend to be a very "hot" sleeper - but I like the idea of the ultralight Montbell sleeping bag and perhaps a silk liner for the bed bugs. I am walking the Primitivo in May, and expect there could be some chilly nights.

    Sleeping Bag Recommended?

thanks John - I thought of the "clothing" option, but as I said below, I think we'll take very light sleeping bags. Perhaps we'll see you on the trail.

    Sleeping Bag Recommended?

Thanks all for your replies - I think we will buy and bring very lightweight bags - I can't imagine anything worse than lying and shivering unable to sleep all night for lack of a warm bedding.

    Sleeping Bag Recommended?

Hi Kanga - when in May are you hiking? We leave Oviedao on the 11th.

    Sleeping Bag Recommended?

Good point - I meant Albergue - I just tend to think of them as hostels!

    Sleeping Bag Recommended?

Hi - we're planning on hiking the primitive route in May, and are debating the sleeping bag issue. Do we need them? Do the albergues all provide bedding? Are they a good idea? Or is that just an extra pound that could instead be another pair of pants...
