    Sun Sleeves?

I used them last year as I walked in summer. They were excellent. Buy the ones used by golfers. They are a thin Lycra, very comfortable and cooling. Easy to wash and light weight.

My sleeping bag is too tight

Don't take one. There are lots of threads on whether one is necessary or not and the type of accommodation one is expecting to stay in. On the Frances at that time of year you can get by with a silk liner. Only private albergues seem to issue blankets these days. Or lose weight (haha).

    Don’t miss Hondarribia

Yes very well marked all the way. It's the same route as from Irun except for the first 2K. It's in all the GPS apps like Wise Pilgrim. We stayed in the Hotel Palacete for great value and wanted comfort after the trip from Melbourne. It's right on the route. But signage is not a problem.

    June start CF

Thanks for your responses. I have just noticed there are other threads raising same concerns regarding June/July

    June start CF

Hi, I'm looking for some advice. Due to family commitments, my CF needs to be brought forward to an early June start or deferred until next April. I'm a seasoned walker, having done the VDLP, Arles (twice), Le Puy and the Norde, so I understand the requirements. Plus I don't need to stay at...

    Don’t miss Hondarribia

Beautiful place. We started there rather than Irun, right on the water and the same distance.

Need help deciding where to go

I'd just keep walking. It's only a couple of days and when you look back you'll be glad to have walked the whole journey. There are some less than interesting days I agree but keep at it

    Bilbao to Portugalete

I walked this section with my sister in 2019 - precovid. We actually started from a small place outside and walked through Bilbao. So we actually had a long day. Some were catching the bus into the city. Next time I'd stay in the city. Yes, the river walk isn't the most attractive, but the...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Self Isolating on the Camino

Thanks. Now waiting until next April

    Geneva to Arles

I'm not sure if this helps. We walked the Le Puy to Arles in 2018 and it was one of the best caminos. The Regordan GR700. Started early May, slightly early for the walking session, and we encountered a few days of rain but no snow on the high plains. I think if you cut down from Lyon it may not...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Self Isolating on the Camino

Thanks, but high risk, which includes those over 60, still need to isolate. By August I will have had the 2nd booster (4th shot) so I'm not worried from a health point of view. Whilst not fair on other walkers I suspect many on the camino are ignoring the rules. It is going to be interesting...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Self Isolating on the Camino

Thanks. I guess the information is changing regularly

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Latest Covid requirements for EU

Thanks. Not good for Ce. But thanks for the advice to get a witnessed test to start the process.

    San Sebastián airport to Irun

Take a taxi as walking out of the airport is confusing and a busy road As another suggestion start in Hondarribia just up the road and right on the boarder Very pretty villiage

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Self Isolating on the Camino

Is this official or your view. This gets complicated because if you have covid and go wandering about to get a PCR test then you're not isolating. As a foreigner in Spain, you basically have no home, car, friends, or whatever to rely on..

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Self Isolating on the Camino

Thanks all. So the upshot is that the requirements for self-isolating are confusing. It appears that if you do feel you have Covid then take a RA test and if the result is positive inform whomever where you are to contact the local health authorities. This should lead to help to find a place...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Latest Covid requirements for EU

It's also about protecting others. I wanted to know what I needed to do if I caught it and needed to self isolate. The issue is finding accommodation until testing negative

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Self Isolating on the Camino

Thanks, this was helpful. I guess there will be some form of help in each region. I can understand if hostels or albergues refuse to take you in.

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Latest Covid requirements for EU

Thanks for this. I'm planning on walking mid August and this helps clarify the issue I had if you caught covid and needed to self isolate

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Self Isolating on the Camino

Thanks, but where will you get accommodation if you need to declare you are positive. This issue must be faced constantly at present. A simple view of Covid statistics would indicate that somewhere up to 5% of pilgrims will catch Covid. Is the issue being ignored which I would not do.
