    Special moments on the Camino

My daughter and I returned from walking the beginning of the Camino Frances from St-Jean-Pied-de-Port a short time ago, and I am still gathering my thoughts about the experience. As some of you know, I have a progressive neurodegenerative disease that limits me, but we still managed to average...

    Slowing down

Oh, no... So sorry your foot problems so severe. I hope your doctor comes up with solution and you heal soon. You clearly did make the right decision. I'm glad you still feel good about your Camino and how it continues, including the joys of being home with your loving partner. Take care.

'Loud crowds' from Santiago; or, How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Way

Love this post! Congratulations to you and your wife for a joyful Camino and your wife's new job! My daughter and I walked at the same time, starting a day later at the other end of the Camino Frances, walking SJPP to Cirauqui at a slow pace in glorious weather. We also had a wonderful time...

    Slowing down

So glad your Camino ended on a good note, BonitaHolland, in spite of all the pain you endured. Your photo of the Leon Cathedral windows is beautiful, and the parador in Leon sounds like a wonderful place for a respite. I'm delighted to hear Leon felt like a Santiago for you and that you are...

    Slowing down

I was so happy to see your husband had surprised you and was about to comment, when I scrolled down and saw your later post. What a difficult time you have had. I am so sorry you fell, especially after so many days of foot pain. I hope you will be pain free soon. Take care, BonitaHolland.

Leaving in less than three weeks

Thank you! I leave this weekend for France and start walking in St-Jean-Pied-de-Port on Wednesday. Looks like weather will be perfect...not too hot for me (a definite concern and the primary reason for October walk), some clouds to provide a break from sun, and not much rain. We are excited :-)

Don't walk the Camino, unless it's your Way

I hope you have been able to get the quiet downtime you seek, BonitaHolland, and that two nights in a nice hotel are restorative. I love the image you painted of when you checked in yesterday :) I start my first, much shorter camino in SJPP next week and so cannot offer any words of experience...

    El Camino Real

I lived less than a mile from El Camino in the San Francisco Bay Area for almost 30 years. Most of that stretch of El Camino is a busy (almost constant car/truck traffic during the day) asphalt road with minimal charm and no reasonable lodging. But south of San Jose, things change. When my...

Leaving in less than three weeks

Thank you all for the valuable information on walking the Camino, both in general and for my unusual circumstances. The last few weeks included days when it looked like walking part of the Camino would become just a dream, but I got the final go-ahead from my doctors last week (promising to be...

Seeking advice on walking the camino with neurodegenerative disease

I will check out umbrella harness options and the Altus poncho. I have to worry more about not sweating and overheating than sweating, as it is one of the autonomic systems that doesn't function properly. Thank you again.

Seeking advice on walking the camino with neurodegenerative disease

Thank you for this link. I am planning time at the beginning to get through some of the jet lag, especially as I am coming from California, and hopefully some rest time at the end. My return will not be flexible, as my daughter will have to return to the States on schedule. I am grateful for...

Seeking advice on walking the camino with neurodegenerative disease

Thank you all! I found a a good overview of my condition in Spanish I will print out. Good idea to laminate. As my condition is rare, very few doctors know about it. Fortunately, my daughter is fluent in Spanish. I can get along with a combination of French and limited Spanish, but not...
